Hi Im in the process of fitting central locking to a turbo. I have worked out how the door locks work and fitted the motors into the door. I have battled the dash (and won) but need help on how to make the c/l work from the standard meta alarm. I could always use a separate fob to activate but would prefer to just link to the original unit. Has anyone done this, any wiring diagrams, advice etc Help would be appreciated Thanks Graham chinky chinky

Thanks for that.

Do you know whether you need a relay to plug in or can the door motors just be plugged straight in?

you will need some sort of relay control unit, the alarm should give out a signal for 'unlock' and another for 'lock' a very basic set up would be one relay for 'lock' and another for 'unlock', you need to swap the wires on one relay, so '+' and '-' would be reversed. A bit of trial and error is required so see which way is lock amd unlock. wires you need to locate are; 'pink and green' - pin 1 and 'pink and white' - pin 4 from the alarm unit under the dash. the other option is to find a secondhand vxT central locking control unit

Ok here goes.

Remove door trims. 2 screws and plenty of clips. Use brute force and ignorance as clips can be put back into panel easily.

Removal plastic covering to internal of door. Locate the latch mechanism where the door motors need to connect. Its a white plastic part with a hole in the end. Hangs vertically from the lock. Its at 8 o'clock when open and 6 o'clock when locked. You can move it with your fingers to check position.

Mount a plate on the inner door frame for the central locking motors. I used 1mm stainless plate approx 240 x 100. Motors can then be positioned to give the best line of action but they were very close anyway. Make sure you grease or use wd40 on the mechanism to free it up! connect the door motor bar to the door lock mechanism. May be worth trying to connect motor to a battery to check they are strong enough. Motors do need to be slim line to miss window mechanism

Remove dash, detailed instructions on other posts. Watch for the screw behind the vx220 plate on passenger side and remember to disconnect starter button before you pull it out.

Run cables from motors through gromets on door and pillar to inside of dash.

Alarm already has wires attached (for turbo version) Colours detailed in ealier posts. Wiring diagram shows details. These wires provide the pulses to lock and unlock. Connect new wires to existing wires,by soldering or connectors. .

May have to be a bit vague on this as i'm not an auto electrician and my mate did the electrical connections and cabling. Run a fused supply from the battery and wire to a c/l relay unit . I will try to get a sketch of the wiring diagram to assist.

Time - about 10 hours.

Cost - about £25! (may be more if you need an auto electrician but not much more as you can do all the leg work)

Works from existing alarm fob

Biggest mistake I made is that I should have taken some photo's along the way.

Any problems- contact me and I will try to assist.

Motors cost £7 each from Clark & Partners in Sheffield

I can find the part number if it helps
