I picked up my vx yesterday which i'm very happy with thumbsup

however after my 3 hour journey home I was freezing cold!! I dont know if this is a common problem but for some reason my heater knob will only turn about 30 degrees towards both cold and hot!! I've attached a pic and tried to show you about how much I can move it. It does go further with force but springs back. Can anyone advise on what might be wrong. thanks in advance

theres no backlight on these unfortunately, doesnt have that luxury. As far as the movement, open the front bonnet, there is a wire to the left of the silver heater pipe that controls the heater, directly linked to the heater box. check its not jammed, and can freely move.

You need to check under the bonnet to see if the cable is fouling anywhere particularly at the heater box end. The paddle that directs the airflow within the heater itself maybe sticking. Also may be worth removing the dash to check the cable.

There is no backlight. Not too many dash lights in the VX and the number reduces with time as the light switches fail.

Mine used to do similar and it was the mechanism behind the control panel that was the problem. It looked like the cable outer sheath had come adrift from the clamp that was meant to hold it and then somebody had tried too much force on the knob and it had twisted the mechanism. Took the dash cover off, bent the adjuster arm back to shape and reattached the cable properly and it all worked again.

If you're just after hot air, you can probably just move the arm on the heater box (under the front bonnet) to full hotwarm manually and leave it there for the next few months. It's not like it produces a huge amount of heat anyway.

Some have dribbled oil down the cable to lubricate

The 85mm diameter silver air tube can be a real pain (read impossible) to get back on some times. If this pipe is not on correctly then cold air just enters the cabin at speed.

Ensure the heater temp adjuster arm, on the heater box, is all the way to the right hand side of the car. i.e the hot position.

I have just totally rebuilt and sealed my heater box and it is now only OK....

That big silver hose running from the center to "somewhere down below" is where the heat is coming from.
Down below on top, just next to the silver hose, you will see a small throttle where my text balloons are.
When your heater is set to full warm, that throttle should point away from the cable.
When cold, towards it.

Keep in mind the picture is from a speedster, so your's will be mirrored, but the same rules should apply.

Is 'Should the heater controls have a backlight?' the new 'What tyre pressures should I run?'?

Don't force the heater knob. Go to the bit shown in the photo, use a bit of wd40, a bit of wiggling, bit more of both, bit of patience, do it again a few days later. Do it once more and Bob should be your mothers brother.
Welcome to the world of the vx.
Still lovin' the VX. For the money, I struggle to think of a car that delivers so much performance, tactility and fun.

Welcome. You have bought an awesomely exciting car.

This forum will help you fix any issues you have.

Clearly somewhere along it's path, your heater cable is binding. You find the source, hopefully you'll post the resolution here to help us guys.

Next thing you'll have another question and one of the people from the forum will come up with a fix for you. This is how it works.

Good luck with your car, I've had mine for 45,000 miles and it just gets more exciting the more I get to know it.

Have fun.
