Hi.. just a quick one.. I had my rears replaced with new Potenza Lotus fitment RE040's but since then when im driving rather fast the front seems light and the car seems to sway round fast long corners... Whats that about? Is it the pressures too high?

Have you checked the pressures then? Fitters normally get them way wrong! Remember they need bedding in too :)

1. Are you sure they are the correct tyres for the VX220 and are matched to the fronts? IIRC RE040's are also made for Audis and are too soft. Loads of info on this site about finding and identifying the correct tyres. 2. Are the tyre pressures correct? Fitters normally over-inflate to get the tyre bead seated. 3. Are the wheel nuts correctly torqued ? Hopefully they are not loose? chinky chinky

Cheers there RE040's Lotus Fitment ones. He torqued the nuts up correctly and pressured them to 30Psi so i think they maybe over inflated a bit... What should they be?

I'm running 24 front, 26 rear.

Plus as already said they will need to be bedded in for a few miles thumbsup

30 is way too high... the manual states 26.5 I think and you'll notice a huge difference between the two, as you would going down to 24. It's a personal preference thing but 30 is definitely too hard!!

Lotus fitment does not necessarily mean they are the right one.

They need to be RE040BZ 225/45 R17 - 90W

Most tyre shops will try and give you TT tyres which may have a higher speed rating but not the right loading* (eg. 91Y) If you have the "wrong" tyres it's not the end of the world - just a bit annoying when you shell out £120 notes each. In saying that tyre pressures make a HUGE difference so that's probably the probelm.

* well it's loading or weight rating or something.

There 225 45 17 W ones. They were made for the lotus elise to give a smoother ride so i assume there the correct ones. I will pop out now and let the tryes down

The correct spec is:

Fronts - RE040BZ 175/55 R17 - 81W DOT CAD (DOT CFE/ DOT CJC is old stock...)

Rears - RE040BZ 225/45 R17 - 90W DOT CFE (DOT CJC is old stock)

I have no idea what the stuff about a smoother ride for Elises is about. AFAIK the correct tyre is made specifically for the VX220. Remember Elises are almost certainly a different weight to the VX. Are your's the correct DOT code? Loads of info here.

Edit: Didn't see Partridge's post above. thumbsup

CFE is the correct dot code Let them down to 26psi and give them 100 miles or so to bed in. While your at it check the front pressures i run mine at 24psi All pressures should be set when tyre is cold with a decent gauge and not the local garage air line that will be way out! Danny
