Have searched here and the net... What exactly constitutes the 'Touring Pack', and does it really make that much difference to noise/warmth? Are the bits easily removed (excluding the floor mats), and if so - are they reusable (ie if you change your mind), or do they then need to be chucked?

They look like this, (and are re-usable and expensive from Vauxhall, but same affect can be achieved much quicker >here, by Morgan9122<, ...

Basically thicker double/triple layer carpets and carpeting under the seats, up the sides and behind. I've had two VX's one with and one without. (I didn't specify it in my 2nd VX as it was a used car poof )I don't think it makes much difference really. Possibly the leather covered door cards were part of the pack aswell?

We fitted a touring pack to our VXT a few months back. Took a couple of hours to fit but well worth the effort IMHO. Found a considerable reduction in road noise (and the crashing from the suspension is bit more muted too). Got ours 2nd hand from Delboy - wouldn't have paid Vauxhall prices though (£350+!)

I'm really confused  . I've been in a few cars which stated they had the TP fitted, but other than the VX220 mats there wasn't any carpeting. What about leather (?) on the sills and on the door cards etc - was that standard?

So does the first car below have the pack fitted; and the second not, but does have mats (were these available separately, or were they standard?)?

Notice the door pockets - I couldn't do without them. The cargo net is pretty handy too. :)

The first has the TP. Note the carpets go up the sides. The second is standard. I think they all came with the basic floor mats (or maybe just everyone specced them?) The pockets were standard.

However the TP has two layers of carpets under those!

My original non touring car had leather seats but the door cards were just siver so assume the leather door cards come with the TP.

Also I think the TP came with central locking all though it was available a an option aswell.

Thank you! However in the second photo the door cards are also red leather (I had to trim the photo to attach it) - although I also thought they were part of the TP too... The covering on the sills (what is it made of?) - was that standard? I thought standard was alu because I was reading that they tend to get scratched a lot...Sorry if I'm being completely dumb...

Photo courtesy of Willow. I'm assuming this is what a TP-free VX looks like (I did think the gear surround was part of the TP) - sooo much prefer it. How easy is it to remove the TP guff oneself, and how does one do it without damaging the bits? [attachment=18504:attachment]

i believe all the turbos have the leather centre console (near the handbrake) the leather door cards are not part of the TP AFAIK, they could be spec'd individually with the two tone leather, same as centrel locking

The sill that you can see with the the door shut is black (cheap) plastic. The bit if sill under the door only visible when the door is open is just painted the same as the car as it is part of the body. This is the bit some people have put 'scratch plates' on either metal of carbon fibre. They are just aftermarket add ons.

Imnotworthy Thank you P11 COV. Now just tell me how to (if I can) get rid of the door inserts, and whether I can get rid of the leather (?) around the gear surround, and you'll be evelated from demi-god to god! Oh, and were the door pockets optional extras or after-market add-ons?

Canvas door pockets were fitted as standard. You could upgrade to leather pockets as part of the Storage Pack thumbsup

Touring pack was only an option on the VXT. No TP ever available on the NA. Leather doorcards and centre console were standard on all Turbos that had leather seats - nothing to do with the touring pack. If you had cloth seats on your VXT then you'd get silver plastic doorcards and centre console. NA had silver plastic doorcards and centre console regardless or what seats you had. Side pockets were standard on ALL VXs after a certain date. My '01 didn't have them but my '02 and '03 did. That should clear it all up!

 You know me too well! 'Storage Pack' - what the?! Was there an engine pack, a wheel pack, a window pack, and a paint pack as well?! Best is if I get hold of a brochure I think - any ideas where I could get one?

Yay! chinky chinky

I have never ever noticed the door pockets. So if the centre console and door inserts were standard, will there be crap underneath if I remove them, or still nice shiny alu?

Ah - so Willow - I'm seeing silver plastic in your photo? I thought it was alu.

Leather covered door inserts and centre console is simpley the standard silver pastic part trimmed in leather. If you remove them there will be nothing underneath. You don't have two sets of door cards/centre consoles stacked up! Removing the door card leaves a big hole in the door. Removing the cenre console reveals lots of wires and cables.

The storage pack was originally and option on early NAs for door pockets a rear cargo net. Although, like I say, door pockets soon became standard but you could add the cargo net behind the seats for about £70 IIRC.

Before you turn the patronising knob any higher :P you completely misunderstood my question...If you read the question I asked whether if I removed the door inserts I would get to nice shiny alu or just a manky mess - I didn't ask whether there'd be another bloody set of silver plastic cards underneath! :beat:

The part about the centre console refers to removing the leather, not the unit!

So read the question properly before you put me in the bimbo box!! :beat: :P :D

This thread is exhausting...Brochure anyone? Pleeease?! :P

Removing the door cards would leave a big hole in the door, no shiny alu I'm afraid. Similarly there's nothing under the centre console. You can't really take the leather off the plastic. Well I suppose you could tear it off if you tried hard enough - would just leave glue-covered black plastic underneath (I doubt they bother spraying them silver before covering them in leather).

If it helps, here is a standard door panel:

and here is the door panel with the plastic insert fitted (which on turbos with leather seats is leather)
