Just as a heads up for anyone thinking of looking at it, I had a free data check left over so put in BJ04 ZTC - it comes up as written off on 7th March 2004 with previous plate of M55UES applied on 09 July 2004 and current plate transferred to it on 08 March 2005...

Not surprising at that price I grant you although I thought maybe he meant to put it up for £16999...

http://www.pistonhea...les/1298540.htm

I never understand why people don't list the Cat c/d in the advert, it's unlikely that many people would buy a car like this without a check thumbsup

Also seems to list a write off on that plate on a VX Tigra on 12 Oct 2005 so looks like the owner made a habit of it

 yeah I know, it's also on Autotrader and says 'Cloth seats' when the pics clearly show black/blue leather plus it's shown with a hardtop fitted but that's not mentioned anywhere either :beat:

Does the VIN number show in the HPI check? If so, what is it?

OK, it says "Interest registered against a previous plate"

Plate transfer
The current plate was transferred to this vehicle on 08 March 2005

M55UES was applied to this vehicle on 09 July 2004
This VRM has been recorded as being written off.
The insurance write-off was recorded on 07 March 2004 against a VX220
The insurance write-off was recorded on 12 October 2005 against a VX Tigra

BJ04 ZTC was applied to this vehicle on 31 March 2004
There are no interests recorded against BJ04 ZTC

Doesn't mention Cat C or D at all so I'm guessing you'd need the VIN to dig deeper

Not in the RAC Data Check, you can put it in if you know it and will do a cross reference - same with the mileage etc

If its a private add then he does not have to tell you anything, except the truth, if you ask.... Seems a fair price if mended well, and was written off. Don't take much as we all know....

even as a cat c that's a very cheap car. I've seen many cat c's over 10k. Could even be a cc as I've seen cars written off twice. Then it could be hard to value! I'd pay 7k for it if I hadn't already bought my project

Am I reading that wrong? To me it says a vx with that reg was written off on 07 march 04 but the reg was added to this vx on 09 july 04 (i.e 4 months later) so I read that as he wrote one off bought another with the payout and transferred the plate on to it. Am I wrong?

Has some sort of performance exhaust (Milltek etc) but no mention of it in the ad, scam thumbsdown

This cae was on ebay a few weeks ago, it had a buy it now of £12k if I remeber correctly. How would a scam work, does the "seller" give instructions how to pay a deposit and then stop returning calls and emails? I just can't see how you can rip people off without owning the actual car. :tumble:

As aforementioned I emailed the owner of that advert about his footrest and because I did so it obviously classed as correspondance between myself and the 'seller'. Therefore, I received an email from Pistonheads this morning informing me not to contact him any further and that the advert has been removed as it doesn't seem legitimate! Just thought i'd update guys!
