Because that cylinder has the worst fuel and air supply so gets to dangerous temperature before the rest! If it then detonates without compression it burns the end of the plug off and that's what's happenned to us.

Exactly so the thing to do is solve the initial problem of it having an inferior or inadequate supply than the others. Swirl pot and/or, if possible/available a larger fuel rail??

We're not discussing a fueling issue though Mark, we're discussing the loss of full compression due to a lifting valve. In this case the fuel ignites in the cylinder and just burns the plug. The cylinder with poorest supply will still be the first to fail no...?

We did adjust the FPR Jimmy, with the socket and the momentum shifting device.

I am convinced this is not a fuelling issue, it is an electrical breakdown under load.

A swirl pot is a good idea Jimmy but I doubt you will need a Bosch 044 pump as well, the in tank pump you have is up to the job. The only reason people went for the 044 was to try to get around the issue of poor performing standard and failing in tank pumps.

Sounds like it was a weekend to remember! I hope the next one is less frantic!

I was really hoping to make it there on Saturday, but had to change my plans at the last minute.

Hopefully your car will be flying again at full strength soon!

It better be Max, you and I are at Cadwell a week Wednesday :o

...yeah, the B&B is booked!

The intank pump will be fine aslong as you always run high amounts of fuel. I still think he should fit a swirl pot and 044 pump though

Reprase the question, from the typical trackday setup we run, what do the rules say you must have.

Rule stipulates a cage is not mandatory for club class but is advised. As my car had the hardtop on it was not deemed convertible either... Result. So to run in Time Attack in your VX you only need to get the Pirelli Tyres and a fire extinguisher.

Well Cadwell Park today. What a disaster. I cannot believe the run of bad luck I've had now, it's going from strength to strength! 3 solid months of breakdowns and expenses, I cannot believe it! Motorsport's apparantly very expensive..... Who knew..? All started so well. I drove the circuit with Max last month and learned the layout. My engine was missfiring so shortshifted and did a 1:47.5 which was respectable. Really hoped a sorted engine would drag some time from that as it sounds like a race driver excuse for sure. Arrived yesterday with a 1hr session booked to shake the car down. Car was great straight away so I gave it some beans!! I was driving fast but was still working out different lines etc and I knew I had some good areas to focus on for improvement but put down a base lap to work from.... 1:46.0 WOW!!!!! Over the moon with that for a starter as I wasn't yet attacking any of the corners and I kinda got held up on that lap too..... Went to head out to work on the areas I'd identified to improve on...... Yeah you guessed it, my engine threw a wobbler and started making a horrible noise!!! Sounded like tappets/chain/rockers. Stripped rocker cover off and all looked well, removed chain tensioner and found it had siezed. Had a new one coming so was still confident I'd get out there today. However even with new tensioner the noise persisted. Pretty sure it's a blocked oil way. I was forced to retire :( By pulling out today I think I'm out of the running for the season's win. It was going to go to the wire anyway so I'm thinking of cutting my losses now and pulling out of the series as I'm so over budget it's scary and there's no percievable light at the end of the tunnel. I have led the championship all season until today so to pull out when I'm winning is a bitter pill to swallow. Even more frustrating is that the winning time today was 1:46.14 which was slower than my practice time yesterday. I would have won comfortably as I was on for a late 1:44/early 1:45. Same happenned at Knockhill! My time in testing would have won but a mechanical prevented med oing so. To make matters worse.... I've split a cv joint AND lost my car keys. I have no spare either :( What next eh...............?
