changed plugs, coilpack still misfiring though code p0303

hopefully its an injector and possibly fuel pump dying as it doesnt sound to healthy

first things first is to get a compression test done as the spark plug that come out the usual suspect cylinder was mullered so if that comes back clear then its gotta be a dodgy injector so will test that on a bit of card board to see if all are firing if not then will change them and see what happens

however he already has a new uprated fuel pump to fit supplied from cliffie so he should fit this anyway

fingers crossed compression test comes back fine thumbsup

Does he have a fuel surge tank fitted??

Should be one of the first things to mod then... :glare: Just keep OEM in-tank pump to feed the surge tank (no pressure > lots of flow) and use the new (Walbro 255?) pump for the pressure feed from a surge tank. (We found one (cheap) that fits nicely inside the alu framerails. thumbsup )

So what's your thoughts of Knockhill as a circuit? There's a fair few blind crest corners where you can't see the exit so it can be a bit hairy at points.

Very hairy  Circuit was great but I'd need some decent advice to 'unlock it'. I levelled off pretty quick around a minute and was pushing hard to break it but just couldn't dip below....

Duffy's was a scream, I loved hooning down there!!!!!!! Chiucane was ok but when I commit to it it spits me super wide on exit which is ok in the dry but in the damp the kerbs got slippy!!!!

Sounds interesting, would love to do this mod, but money is super tight! How much would you expect this to cost..?

Swirl pots are circa £100 I believe. Pumps can be more expensive but if you but a s/h separate pump you will save plenty.

As you already have an uprated pump (Walbro 255?); a surge tank should be less than 100 quid total. Plus some spanner time.

was the spark plug damaged or just sooted up

most likely an injector if the spark plug was still in one piece thumbsup

The end of the spark plug looked a little sorry for itself. Not sure if it'd been hit or if it had blown to bits. Took it to a local garage I know who are pretty good to see what they can do. He reckons he can hear that compression is down but will check it later for me. Fingers crossed.....

sorry to hear of your logistical/engine problems Jim that scuppered your racing this weekend. This forum is the best place for information and sourcing parts in a hurry so my guess things will be sorted for the next race.

The three ground electrodes had been bent in somehow and were all touching the centre electrode. The surface of the parts of the plug that were in the combustion chamber were pitted not unlike mine were in this thread (picture):

http://www.vx220.org..._1#entry1168073

I think that my ground electrodes were pushed in slightly compared to the untouched plug in the same picture but the insulator was further up on my Brisk plug than Jimmys and was shattered. The insulator on Jimmys plug was untouched and in one piece. The difference is that mine only misfired every now and then and with a new injector in seems to run fine. Both mine and Jimmys were the same cylinder.

could just the plugs sparking (dry) cause the pitting that we see? it would explain why there is nothing in the cylinders. im wondering if running such low fuel was a problem,

ive just looked online and it says that running lean can cause that kind of pitting in the sparkplugs. it would explain why we didnt find anything in the cylinders anyway, Mark are you running an original pump or was you prior to yours dying?

Mark was runing a uprated pump Deff a fuel problem not helped by low fuel and no swirl pot thinking about it now Hope it's just an injector and we can get the rest sorted for next time
