To add some real purpose to this other than just quoting power numbers, how about people also add a percentage to show how often there driveable i.e actually running and in use. Maybe base it on the lasy year leading upto this date. I think this might highlight that going for big numbers is fine, but you may find reliability may suffer. Martin s

So, can someone tell me in simple terms what makes for a good track car, lots of BHP or lots of Torques or both? The tubby car's have massively more torque than the NA's or SC cars by a long way, shouldn't they be far superior on track? ....this is a serious question, I don't confess to being a petrol head! Even if the power comes in big waves, shouldn't it shoot them out of corners far more swiftly? ;) if it's lack of traction, surely people on here would have fat arse tyres or slicks to put down the power...

Can't really give any comparisons on this as I've never driven another vx in anger, but next time we meet up on track you'll have to take mine out, I'll be interested in your thoughts thumbsup

I would say low torque and high power makes a better track car IMHO. Power is just torque x revs (in layman's terms) and it is power that actually defines how fast your wheels are spinning. Torque generally peaks at lower revs; since turbos tend to have more torque than a similarly powered SC car they will generally accelerate faster (if the 2 cars are same weight) because they have more power most of the time. In other words the 2 cars would only be producing the same power at the redline, but the SC car will linearly increase in power up to that point where as the turdo will swell up with more power earlier in the rev range thanks to the torque, meaning that it might be 40bhp up at say 3500rpm but by the redline it will be equal with the SC. Hope that makes sense as I'm on phone and struggling to type with my chubby fingers.

Oh and the reason the turbo is not preferred for track is (ignoring the handling due to pig iron ballast at the back) due to the mix of turbo lag in the lower revs, and IMO having all the low down torque means you have to regulate the power yourself more rather than relying on using lower revs where you want less power; because the turbo power curve is much more of a flat line than the neat diagonal straight line of the NA or SC. In other words it takes more driver skill to do well with the turbo IMO.
