Did they ever try mapping it with the standard cams in, to rule out any problems with the ECU/sensors/timing etc? Proper pain in the proverbial though. :(

Nick,

This was never going to be as straight forward as a remap, this is ground breaking stuff and entering new territories for the VX220 and Courtenay's.

Things like this take time to get right and don't forget, folks like us really benefit from the investment you pioneers have made. (No I'm not going halves with you... ask Joe, he has a Harrop).

:yeahthat:

I don't recall any development work on the VX being straightforward and always took way longer in time and £££ than expected. IIRC the original Hitec SC conversions were problematic. Stick with it mate. thumbsup

:yeahthat:... First go back to the basics.
Too many variables right now and very difficult to pinpoint the problem this way...

Courtenays removed the Harrop and put on an m62 so then it is the same spec as a number of other s/c cars running 300bhp car still ran rough with the cams in worse than other m62 cars, so cams seem to be the thing and looking back to the original fit with the z22se ecu it was rough then so think it was probably the cams all along. will see when piper check them.

I would wanna fit standard cams though to make sure that the timing with the external trigger wheel is alright

Slightly off topic; what's the trigger clocked at? 114° BTDC, measured on centre of 1st missing tooth?

Edit: got confirmed on Z22SE.co it's indeed 114* BTDC for the centre of the 1st missing tooth on a 60-2 GM wheel.

OK, forget the above for a GM 2.0 LSJ crank trigger:

Printed a degree wheel and put it on my 2.0 LSJ crank:
- Zeroed degree wheel on TDC mark => 0*
- Rotated LSJ crank clockwise till centre VR sensor lined up with centre 1st new tooth after the 60-2 gap => ~119* BTDC !
- Rotated crank further clockwise till TDC mark on pulley => 0* again. (Checked TDC mark on pulley through plug = highest point cil 1.)

So my 2.0 LSJ engine has the centre of the 1st new tooth after the 60-2 gap (rotating crank clockwise) on 119* BTDC, so centre of 1st missing tooth is around 131* BTDC. (119*+12*)

The above is measured on a GM 2.0 LSJ engine with 60-2 triggerwheel (similar to Z20NET/Saab 207 crank?) and thus I'm not sure on triger timing for the Z20LET engine (ecu) or on the Z22YH crank triggerwheel.
But if I would allign my triggerwheel with 1st missing tooth on 117* BTDC, my LSJ ecu timing would be off by 14*... (Retarded!!)

wonder if it's possible to use the old fashioned timing light to check ?

Yeah, it's confusing and therefore I started measuring. Would be nice if somebody could measure up the Z20LET crank trigger. (And do like to know how Courtenay checked your timing.)

That works with some extra timing marks on the pulley and when you know how much timing the ecu commands. (Or program 0* timing advance and the strobe should be dead on the pulley mark...)

I wonder, might explain it if its that far out!! (14 degrees)

just spoke to a vauxhall chap and he thinks the z20let has the same timing as the z20net.
