Nick, I don't suppose you could post a list of the costs of the components for this ECU swap could you?

I think that redefines the word "nip"! Good luck though, I hope there's some progress to report! thumbsup

I sent them the Saab cam gears, same as oem but no positioning lugs on them, so they needed to adjust them manually. sounded a bit of a pain to do, but they did it. It does sound like all my hassle right back to the start of this episode may have been due to the comp cams not having the lug in the correct position. rant rant rant (worth 3 IMHO)

you should always vernier the cams on big power engines  mine were something like 2 degrees and 6 degrees out

Which brings the inevitable question of whether they could now do the necessary mapping for the Harrop on the Z22SE Delphi ECU. :beat:

Still, at the end of the day, you'll have a much more flexible ECU in there now that they can properly tinker with. thumbsup

And FLD will have the same issues. As soon as Jon told me what was happening we knew the exhaust cam was the culprit.

I would advise using them with Blower cams and a Harrop.

Max has them in his engine because he was going to fit a Harrop (his Blower cams were only a degree or two out) and my engine has them because I wanted the absolute maximum from the stage 3 cams.

Amazing comp cams can sell stuff which is not fit for purpose how much money has this cost me, £1000's

I would recommend anyone with blower cams to pick up some Saab cam gears and set them up propperly

Unless CompCams are just making random cams then I can't see how there's an inherent problem with them. Surely, the problem is down to them i) not being for this exact engine (but for a similar engine) and, ii) down to fitting and us just assuming they work correctly straight away, as they physically fit.

I for one don't like the sound of my cams being out by a degree or two or more. That's surely not doing any favours to the valvetrain or combustion chambers, nor delivering peak power. Maybe that's why with blower cams in, the idle is as lumpy as it is.

Time for Mushroom Racing to call in some contacts at Piper or Kent Cams and get them to make some sensibly priced Verniers suitable for the Z22SE?

You should always always always check the cam timing on any engine. I think this is one of the biggest critical factors on an engine running properly. Adding something like a turbo or supercharger into the equation just magnifies the issue. I looked at the OE timing gears with the lug and the ones I had allowed a couple of degrees float on each cam anyway. Not the best locking method! Glad I still have some saab gears now.

Its good to hear you are up and running Nick. I'm looking forward to seeing a dyno plot on that beastie.
