I am now going ODB software the ecu is going to him. I am sending a new spare ecu and he will transfer the security information form my old ecu onto the new one. That way I will have the c`ms mapped ecu as a backup.

Interesting.... So you could literally unplug one ecu and plug the other one in and everything works? thumbsup

That only works if you have them mapped for the same injectors and/or MAP sensor. But those are easy to change too if needed.

To the spacers/isolators; these are standard on the Saab or US LSJ engine, but then also the fuel rail is raised with some spacer blocks. You don't need these and several SC-ed Speedsters have LSJ injectors directly fitted on a Z22SE (or Saab) head. 60lbs have the same length.

I might still have the spacers that I removed from my saab head if you can't find them new elsewhere?

As said, you also need fuelrail raiser blocks to go with the injector spacers...

Ah I take it they are difference sizes?,  Better check my saab bits in the shed. then better check for the same bits in techieboys shed :D

I have a saab parts shop very near me wonder If I can get theses from them, I have some injector spacers coming.

I think I see what you meant Exmanta I will need the fuel rail blocks/spacer but don't need the injector spacers with the siemens 60lbs as they are longer anyway?

No,

Same length so the 60's fit directly. Only if you want to fit them with those spacers/isolators, you also need the fuelrail raiser blocks.

For me it only takes 10 mins to backup the ECU and download a new file to it , with the immo data transfered across. So I only have a second ECU for doing benchwork testing as its a lot easier to work indoors warm and comfortable at a desk , rather than relying on battery power having the ignition on and the laptop battery.

  I just checked strange because I ordered 60lbs LONG I automatically thought spacer required. I just checked and they are exactly the same as the vxr ones :beat: idiot

The backup one with cms map I could alway revert to the same setup I have now but in reality too much hassle

Which software are you using Steve?

OBD takes about 30 seconds to program the ECU and 5 seconds to save a map to the pc. So no need to worry about batteries. Most changes whilst playing with the map can be done live so are instant. Changes then have to be programmed to the ECU to make permanent.

its about 5 mins to program the whole ecu, firmware and map from blank. To just fiddle about with map entries its as you say instantaneous. The hardest part about live mapping it is cleaning up the spurious data.

Well got cracking on with it, loads of stuff to do, one I wanted to check since I removed the clam was to give the exhaust the once over. I had problems with the mot emissions. So off with the CAT great job  :angry2:

Good news was that there is still a CAT there I called Jim to tell him and while speaking I looked again and noticed some lines down the inside of the CAT pipe, turned the pipe over and you could hear the CAT sliding inside the pipework,DEAD :(

New one required, Jim was great about it. Am sending it ASAP at least I can start mapping when it comes back with a new

Nick When you start mapping just cover normal driving to start with and this will give you an idea of what to expect and how to apply the changes to the map. Also you will be able to see how far out the base map is out by the fuel changes made. Will you be using the wideband mapping for WOT?

Will do I when I start mapping I will take it nice and easy, no rushing and I will be asking lots of questions....

I have asked Jim to put in an extra hole for the wideband so I will use that I think as it seems probably best.

One interesting thing I noted when I removed my plugs ITV24's yesterday was that they are black, been running rich or what..

Looking forward to seeing the results and i will be following shortly after you.  Im in the same boat as you mate with my cat but mine has shot it out. Im going have to get another one made so when you say extra hole for the wideband is that just on the cat pipe. I thought the wideband goes into the lambda sensor hole?

Wideband is an extra sensor, not a replacement.
