Steve, if you are going to have a look at an MR2, please have a look at a MX5. I drove both and as a everyday car the MX5 is miles better. If you go for a 2.0 you also get a lsd, I am really enjoying mine.

Steve

I have two mx5's at the moment, a 1.8 and a GT28 turbo project. The 1.8 I'm breaking for parts which is almost done and the turbo, which is a reshell and massive upgrade process just needs brake lines, clutch line, fuel lines wiring and mapping. It's used to be my road car before the vx came along when it only had 250bhp. I decided to tale it permanently off road to become a track car and give it a full weld in cage, forged engine etc to end up at about 360bhp.

Thing is it's stalled this last year as I realised how much I prefer the vx. I think I'm more a mid engines fan than front engine rear drive. Mid just seems more rewarding, the mx5 could be hurled about without thought on track. I want to get it running again so at least I may sell it easily. Can see myself loosing a lot of money on it but even more if I put it for sale as an unfinished project.

Silver one, all looks nice and right price, two tone grey / black leather interior. All checks have come back with it being a nice honest car so thought why waste time travelling round looking. Seller contacted me via here, ex Elise owner thinking of a VX.

So will give it a proper test on track in May which is cool as I had been umming and arrhing about spending a horrible amount on a full day in a 111R with instructor as had already booked the day- already cancelled my day next week as thought i'd never get a car in time.

Definately concluded plan is sort the MX5's - Sell one/ scrap one, buy another VX as a track car, keep MR2 as daily driver.

Has to be said now I have the MR2, face lifted mk3 Evo gave 5 stars too. Gash compared to a VX. However it was under half the price of the VX and 6 insurance groups lower. I will keep it as a daily road car, heater works, easier roof, easier to get in and out of, loads higher and more visable. I will work and make my mx5 go and be able to be sold and will then build a proper VX tracktoy.

Yep, no leaks either, no sign of it having ever let any water in. It's a bit of a funny thing for a small (but loads bulkier than the VX) car in that it goes a lot quicker than it feels, look at speedo and its always going quicker than i'd guess. Probably due to the complete lack of torque anywhere in the rev range. Not driven an Elise S, but think i'd not like it half as much as the vx. The engine is dull and the gear box nowhere near as good as the 2.2.
