I have a VXT Stage 4, and its plenty quick. My old man had a 2007 911 Carrera 4S and my car is a good deal quicker to ~100. Into 3 figure speeds VXs are not a nice places to be. Ive hit 140 or so at Knockhill/Autobahns and my ass was clenched tighter than gbobm's wallet...

So is the VX unsafe at 140mph because of how light it is or just scary?

Buy Nicols!
However, if you dont have much experience with RWD and Mid-engine cars I'd wouldn't recommend starting with a VXT Stage 4 - just my opinion, you'd probably be fine, depends how you drive.

Some unnecessarily vitriolic responses in the previous pages

Anyhooo, think Joe has got the right idea - test drive a std turbo, a stage 2 and if you feel the need for more a stage 4. Then after buying get yourself booked into driver training at carlimits ASAP to help you learn the car much quicker, then you're good to go.
As a reference I saw a post once recorded by SteveA (240bhp as said) with times of 0-60: 4.5s and 0-100: ~10.3s IIRC.
DuncanVXR had a stage 4+ running about 305bhp which did 0-60: 3.9s and 0-100: 8.7 seconds again if my memory serves me correctly. That should edge past a Porsche 996 turbo in standard form.
I personally don't see why people get so uppity when people ask about acceleration. To me if you compare the VX with e.g. a Ferrari 360 you've got at least equal (but probably better) handling and braking, but the acceleration isn't quite there. By going to stage 2 you'll almost match it so you've got yourself a near-Ferrari performer for a fraction of the buying and running costs. Don't see how that does any harm personally.

Yes thats one of the cars i was looking at, it looks amazing. I wont be buying one untill 3 - 4 months time so it may not be around for sale then but im sure there will be a few stage 4's around. Theres 4 on pistonheads now.

But worrying about how it out accelerates some ricer between 100 and 140mph is a worthwhile measurement of how the car performs? Worrying about how stable it is at 150mph is a key concern? Yep, they're all important bits of information for when you're running around in Newcastle and anywhere else in the UK. Or, playing Top Trumps in the playground.

As for the other question of acceleration above 80mph, well stage 4 would leave most things for dead, easily 300bhp hot hatches! Would be ferrari 360 , 911 turbo, lambo territory upto 140mph.

Hi think you may be interested in the vid posted a few months back of the vx and focus rs 500 side by side.Thats an astra vxr type hot hatch and you should see what happens to that in a straight line against the vxt.Someone may find it for you.

from the sound of it £200 spent on driver training in your current car would see you having more useable fun from it on the road while retaining the 'high speed pace' you like....
