You can use tooling gel coat and resin for a tougher finish, but in my experience, if you prep the mould properly and dont smash the part out the mould when you break it out, a normal mould will do lots of pulls. Tooling gel and reain is great if you are mass producing parts for a number of years. As for reproducing an existing part, my dad or me would spent the time making sure the part supplied was in top condition before making a mould from it. Then get it all waxed up and a mould made slowly so that shrinkage is not an issue. Alot of the time, cheap parts are made quickly and made from a mould that is made quickly, and the things distort when released, as there is nothing holding it to its shape. Anyway, the option is there if people want to PM me. My dad is based in south Essex, and has been in the trade for 30years, there is not alot he cant do, and is well established.

Thats fair enough Robin, appreciate that. If anyone has one, they can send it to my dad, he has been doing glass fibre work for nearly 30years, and is really good at it. He could make a mould from one and sell them if there is demand for 10. Drop me a PM if anyone is interested.

Why not get your dad to make you your own design if he has 30 years on fiberglass, pop your clam off and Come up with something of your own instead of copying my design.

Sorry Robin, no offence was meant, just that you have a list of people willing to pay good money for a product that you are unwilling to sell to the public at the moment, which is understandable if you are busy. A few people have offered to biy your mould which you are unwilling to sell, so i was merely offering alternative. You coule probably make 15 and sell 10/12 now, and the remainder over the next 6 months and make a large profit as you already have the mould. As you know, to design and make a part and make a pattern, then a mould is a long process. You have done well and made a product people want, so well done to you. If you made one a night for the next 10 days ( 2working weeks) then the order would be complete and you would have enough money for a nice holiday somewhere hot. Again, no offence wad meant to you, i was merely trying to help out fellow forum members, as clearly there is a market for this short term.

I've been speaking to Ultimate Carbon over the last couple of weeks about developing a full length carbon fibre front splitter for me as a favour for helping out on the group buy :) It would be clearly a different design to the Robin splitter but they're up for making it if there's enough interest. They're going to cost it up and let me know on timings but they need to complete the current GB first and catch up on the backlog they now have from making all our bits (oop's!). Just want to manage expectations as the GB took us by storm, exceeded all our expectations and they're only a small company! It will be carbon fibre  reinforced with kevlar for strength and help with any potential impact or scrapes. Hopefully my prototype will be available in a few weeks so will post some pics then :D

I would design my own, but my problem is that id want it to add points of downforce more than look good, so id constantly be battling the form/function problem. As previously stated, my dad is around an hour away, and as im busy almost every weekend, it is not possible at the moment to design and make my own shape/design. Though as there is clearly a market for it, it is something that if look into in the next winter or 2 when the car is off the road. Sorry if i wound you up, was not my intention, was just trying to offer fellow members an option.

Wow this is hotting up ;)

I really want a robin as do a number of others on here !

Unfortunately robin is not going to be making them for the foreseeable future, even with the obvious demand.

So am willing to consider both options above, so please count me in!

robin your splitter is fab, if you re-consider please post, preferably before those loyal to your masterpiece choose another option.

We have been waiting for some time :groupjump:

Hi,

I am also interested in alternatives, been after a nice splitter for a long time, if dawg83 is able to replicate them i would definately commit to one or one from ultimate carbon comes in a reasonable price (not £500!!)  I would be interested too, whichever happens sooner really!!!

Personally, I am after a decent front splitter, so I am happy to look at any options if this group buy is stalling?

Could you let us know the details of the carbon fibre one? An idea of cost would be good too if possible?

Best designed one to date, without DIY'ing with sheets of plywood like LeeVX2.2 etc.

I'll keep you posted. It'll be a few weeks until my prototype will be ready as we're still working through the carbon fibre group buy which is priority. He's got a few back orders on Caterham parts too as he's only been working on VX bits of late!! He's going to try and give me a ball park cost when he gets round to making mine and rough timings when he'll be able to produce them. So will keep you posted, I'll probably start a new GB thread when the time comes :D

Just wondering if there have been any developments.

D-DAWG83 - Have you had any luck in obtaining an original to work with or other signs of interest- pm if you prefer

r2mlb - Any news from ultimate carbon- pm if you prefer

If anyone else is really serious about a splitter please voice your opinions and maybe put your money where your mouth is, or this is not going to get off the ground, no it ain't a plane Batman(reply to previous thread) but have left terra-ferma twice previously without the aid of wings

I'd defiantly be interested in a group buy especially for a ultimate carbon one, I've been looking for a decent full length one for a while now and got nowhere

Ultimate Carbon are up for doing one, however its all hands on deck to finish current group buy off first (and catching up on their back orders). I should know in a few weeks time more detail around what it will look like and importantly the costs. Please just bear with us for now. I will kick off a new group buy thread as quite rightfully pointed out its become a talking point on here and hijacking another thread. I may start one soon just to gauge interested so we have an idea of volumes which will effect unit price (economies of scale).

Is there interest in a dempert style one?  I've been thinking about doing another in a similar style to this one but it'd be all GRP rather than the alu sheet.  I'd need good numbers to make it worth patterning though.
