Hi i'm in the market for one of theese two cars, i was hoping you can help me choose ir give me an opinion. I either get a VX220 turbo with the extras that i want totaling around 33k (including 3k insurance) Or i can get a replica GT40 from a manufacturer in South Africa for around £20k and as its a kit car insurance is £800 with a Chevy V8 What would you go for?

In my opinion the GT40 is better looking than the VXT, but which is the nicest to drive?

tough decision...if you want POWER, the VXT with a stage 3 is the way to go (well within your price bracket)...but I reckon the GT40 might have an edge on pulling power...although the Vauxhall dont half get the knickers snapping ;) The choice is yours (a voice from overhead bellows) thumbsup

VXT. With a replica kit car imported from abroad, your pretty much on your own. I'd prefer the backing of a dealership.

If I had the choice I'd buy a Chisel speedster over the GTO copy. But then I'd get the VX in the end anyway :D

Whats this i read abouts stage 1 2 3 tuning for VX's i did a search and couldnt find a decent tutorial any one point me the right direction.

@gedi i know what you mean you want the backing of a dealer but as i save 13k i think it may be worth it. I do have some mechanical knowledge and i will be able to service it my self and carry out minor repairs. I am good friends with a mechanic so major problems i can bring him in.

@ turbo man whats and ultima and how much is it?

@jimgraham thats another problem i cant test drive the GT40 unless i go to South africa. But GT40 has such a good rep it has to be great to drive?

Thanks for your help all.

Heres two images of both cars they both look good but i think the GT40 has the edge.

If its performance your after it must be the VXT. The GT40 rep is much heavier which negates any additional bhp. A heavier car creates other problems in the handling and braking fields. Have you ever been in a GT40? You'll defo need a/c which just adds to the weight. If you intend to do a few track days or just use it fast road use then its the VXT. If you just want to pose then by a GT40. To pose you need it to replicate a rel one which means your 15k or so will turn into 40k. Check a few of the quality sites here in the Uk for GT40 reps, such as GTD or the one based in Kidderminster I can't think of its name but it too is a quality kit.

Dont know too much about these variety of replica cars, but is it not based on a doner car, or is it built from scratch ? Although I assume it will be lighter, will it not be only slightly better than than the original doner car for performance and handling, ie a Ford Mondeo. Sorry if Ive got this completely wrong :P The GT does look good though :D

stage 1 = 220bhp
stage 2 = 245bhp
stage 3 = 280bhp

If only you could get a VXT to sound like a GT40, or an Ultima. V8 power, that's what you need for a good noise, forget these sports exhausts, Big V8, small scilencers, rattle a few windows

If you want a car for road driving then the VXT. If you want to be stared at , at the wine bar then the GT 40. Basically are you a driver or a poser?

TBH, I get stared at in the wine bar with the VXT.

However that could just be down to my stunning good looks.

I think it's unfair to call someone a poser if they want the GT40. I think the GTD and the Tornado kits are great performers. :) I also personally would get a woody every time I look at it.
