Even if you put a curve on the panel you would still have to find a solution to losing the heat from the engine bay.

The Lotus Europa uses what looks like oven glass in the rear window, as it can get pretty warm, along with a vent behind what would be the rollover bar cover, above the turbo heatshield/chimney.

There is another one knocking about which is based on a butchered exige rear panel...

Wouldnt mind seeing the molds. There are molds and molds. It could be totally useless if it hasnt been made professionally.

Interesting proposition though. I was pondering on buying another car to do some development on so this may be a cheaper way of getting the product ready.

Reading the German topic those molds seem to be pretty high spec. All designed for autoclaved carbon. The mold for the 5 slots is a high polished metal mold to get a perfect finish. (Those vent slots were made with a special high temp carbon/resin. But 5 times autoclaving makes it expensive...)

Feedback from our german friend: 1500 to 1800 euro (not sure where the 300 gap is coming from?) For this we get: - 2 molds for the cover - 1 Verklebeform (google translate could not help me there.) - 1 alloy mold for the meshes - The data to laser the alloy parts etc

Any chance of any pics of the molds? Close ups ideally. I would have to ask the opinion of my GRP guys. Autoclaving the parts isnt an option for me I don't even know of an autoclave in this area. I dont think using GRP should be an issue though. Any idea if he is willing to ship them over here?

Die Verklebeform - odd word that. even spoken to chief big daddy in Austria about that and he has no idea. Klebe is glue.....might be something to do with type of mold material.....

Its a jig for when you glue the two parts together. Inner and outer parts. So you're getting two moulds and a jig for the GRP and an alu press for the mesh. Basically the whole shebang. The only risk with GRP over compression moulding would be the thickness of laminate for a given strength. Could be a minor issue when bonding.

I think its detail like that we need to know before we can say yay or nay on this one. Could be an interesting project.

You will need to determine the moulding thickness and the glue layer thickness. I'd imagine a compression moulded moulding to be 1.5-1.7mm GRP would need to be 2-2.5mm to get sufficient rigidity. The glue layer thickness will be key.

Yes, if it technically works out ok, we need to setup an org den to work out the money stuff.
Happy to invest a few hundred in an R&D case, but not 1.5k.

If it works out technically, i'll setup and investment topic and see where it brings us.

Maybe another thing to check, would the moulding be suitable for both NA's and turbos?
