Posted Image German carbon "racing bonnet". Aparently ~10 of these were made for around €2000-€2600 each. Did ask the guy if the molds still exist....(no reaction)

Let's bump this up with a mighty shove, as since yesterday the molds for this German rear cover popped up and I have the possibility to buy everything for ~2K€.

Need to decide quickly though if this will be somewhat economically sane...

Molds are very high quality for autoclaved carbon, but according to seller also suitable for hand layed GRP. 2 molds for top + bottom, a mold/fixture for glueing both together. An aluminium mold for the slots and CAD files for the hinges etc.

It's certainly the only hatchback conversion and hinge system I'd go anywhere near. I'll register my "interest". thumbsup

Well, we're very busy trying to get the molds to NL. There is more interest in these in Germany, but from what I heard on the forum there is that at least all had intentions to make a small production run from these.

Just trying to get a decent deal, as German Speedster stuff tends to be (very) expensive...

We did our best for this, but it looks that the molds are now sold to another German buyer.  :(

But the good news is that the molds of this beauty are not lost and there will be a new batch made of these rear covers in cheaper GRP. And hopefully for a decent price/quality.

We'll keep you lot informed if any news pops up!

And still something that intrigues me...

Apparently several (6?) of the original German carbon rear covers were sold to the UK, but I never heard or saw anything mentioned of these on this forum. Weird...

Nope, never seen a UK car with one. That said, I've only seen photo's of two German cars with it fitted.

Once one of these makes it into the UK everyone will have them ;)

Interesting that the butresses seem to extend to the rear of the lid but the slats slope down more steeply to the latch area.

Latest news on these is that the new German fabricator intends to make the big (painted) parts in cheaper GRP with the slotted wings then in autoclaved high temp carbon.

That sounds like a high quality product, but will be reflected in the price...

Think around 1000GBP, but if that is complete with the hinges etc. then it sounds not that bad.

Plus shipping. Plus paint maybe. Still a potentially nice addition to a VX compared to other similar designs.

To be fair it's a few days work in the grp plus hinge manufacture.  1k isn't too bad.
