Ok £120 to re spray the lower front. How much do you pay out to protect that before you say leave it a year or two and have it done again.Which is why i was wondering about a DIY ebay film. What would be the rough cost of a pro shield job on just the lower section front ?

As far as i know, the shield will not win it from all the rocks that hit the front clam. The shield will leave the polyester and paint better intact, as without it would splatter off the clam on impact. So somebody who has had armor or venture for a few years, and then refitted should explain how the clam looks after removal of the original shield.

You'll have to speak to a Ventureshield / Armourfend place and see what they'll do. The basic kit includes more than the lower section.

That is just what i was thinking £120 to paint the front lower section that had all the chips,so how much do you spend to protect that before you say sod it just leave it and get it done again in a few years ? If for £50 i could have a good protection job (may be DIY)done that looked good then it may be worth it.

I have the £50 DIY kit from edel parts fitted, just after a respray 3 years ago.
Still looks fine 99% today. (not as strong as armour/vendor, but good enough for me)
http://www.edel-car-...ameset_shop.htm -> opel speedster\Lackschutzfolien -> the one for 56 euro.

That sounds like the job for me,How was it to put on ? was it cut to fit ?

I had that kit but gave it to JJJ, I think. Having seen the dust free environment needed and how much stretching and shrinking was required by the two fitters who applied mine, I wouldn't attempt it myself.

Im almost certain i have heard storys about the removal off the film and it took some paint off
I would off thought the chances off putting it on then removing it would be slim ,I think they come with a guarantee for so many years
I presume the paint is quite thin on the vx?

Spray water and soap on the shield, put it on, and wiggle it in place.
Then the included plastic scraper is used to scrape out the water/soap underneath.
Then use a hair dryer to let the glue kick in.
I had to make 2 or 3 1 cm cuts at the bottom part to make the bend correctly (when the clam does the 90 degree bend on the underside) This is however not visible for the eye, as it's under the car.

Optimal result is of course only achived, if the clam is in perfect state.
It does not help in masking up an allready fooked clam.

You will not see it on the clam, once finished. The sides however do hold the dirt, making the shield more visible.
So you have to keep it clean to hide it.
Some people even had to put their face nearly on the clam to see the shield

Good film (certainly the stuff Covertech use) is easy to remove just a little heat from a hairdryer, it does not even leave any adhesive residue on the car, just comes clean off thumbsup It only pulls paint with it if the paint is applied to a poorly prep'd surface in the first place! on a good paint job with at least a weeks wait to let the gasses out you'll have no problem at all. As said definatly NOT a DIY job!!!
