I am finally making some good progress. Seb can you remember if the SC was filled with oil, I came to check it the other day but it happened to be an Allen key size I did not have.

Update 6

I have modded the alternator to fit, the picture pretty much shows how much I removed and there is now a clear gap between the positive and the manifold casing, enough to fit a plastic cap over.

Posted Image

Tip: Fit the pulley bracket and alternator before the manifold, I had the alternator in place and then fitted the manifold but forgot about the bracket and with such long bolts was very awkward to tilt just enough to get the bolts in and the alternator is surprisingly heavy holding it with one hand awkwardly in the engine bay.

Talking of awkward jobs, the manifold bracket had my fingers to the bone trying to get the M10 bolt in, access is just so limited and it did cross my mind that Joe's bracket may be out a bit but no, it went on in the end.

My plan was always to use the standard airbox, I narrowly missed out on a cheap Pipercross Viper so I have stuck to the original plan. I have basically used the existing intake pipe which the sensor can go in and shifted the box further to the outside of the car, fabricated a couple of mounting points and cut the bottom off the box off to get it to fit and be less restrictive.

The ECU has been away to CMS, come back and is now moved to the back wall of the engine bay using the little tubes from the old plastic manifold and screws.

I am gonna skip a few details, I got it all together yesterday, left it overnight and connected the battery this morning then fired it up and it just worked, not sure what I was expecting but I thought there might be some issues. There was slight high revving for a minute or so as expected, I let it warm up then went up and down the road a couple of times slowly in first and second gear and I could already feel the urgency. It was a little hessitant revving from tickover and stange hearing different noises to what I am used to for the last eight years, the hissing and whining is much louder than expected. It settled down and is smoother now at tickover than before the SC, everything seemed good so I finished the final touches like wheel arch, undertray etc. and went out for a 20 odd mile cruise. I must say I have been beaming today :D , partly because it actually worked but also because the way it drives is awesome, just effortless and exciting and this is going steady staying under 5K or whatever the limit is. It feels like when I first got the car so many years ago, it feels lively again and makes me glad I have stuck with it. I am totally happy with it but I can now see why you could easily get sucked into the modding bug and strive for more but for now this will do. chinky chinky again for all the help and advice. chinky chinky

There is quite a wait to get in at Courtenay apparently but I wanted to see it working before I booked it in, probably be July now.
