what i have in mind is to make two rear vents similar to what the lotus 2-11 has either side on rear as per
red circled bits, this would blend into the remaining rear bumper so only two holes would have to be cut
(similar to fitting the front louvers process)
now the price i would guess price would be about £100 mark so if intrested please put name down or any sugestions remarks welcome

There will be X amount of energy in a shunt, it has to go somewhere. It's usually absorbed/dissipated by the bumper breaking etc. If there's not much bumper in the way, it's then transferred to something else in the car etc.
Granted, only probably a small factor.

Would be interesting to see a mockup of them. I do actually quite like what Joe has done to his rear clam.
Here is a two second photoshop effort. Not great but you get the idea...

In older "normal" cars, yes. In modern cars, "bumpers" are just a thin plastic cover for a more beefy collapsible bar beneath. Given how GRP tears and cracks, I'm not sure it has any role in crash protection (other than to hide any crash structures underneath the bodywork) on the VX. I thought the exhaust system was meant to be a significant part of the rear crush zone. Which we've probably all fuggered with aftermarket exhausts anyway.but remember why the bumper (particularly the lower part of it) is there. If you cut away at the bottom section you are reducing it's ability to absorb kinetic energy, and this increase your chance of chassis/engine damage in the event of a rearward shunt.

Can you go quite that high given the boot is there, or have you measured it and that's the cutoff point?

No not measured at all. I dont even have a VX anymore so would struggle.
If you want it lower just shout and I can adjust. Also if you want it a different size etc just ask
Cheers

Like this beauty (although as you can see, he went too high)? The top edge of the mesh above the exhaust is about as high as you can go without having to cut into the boot. IMO it would also look better visually if it ties in with this line and also the straight line projected down from the inside of the rear light cluster.

Well I have lowered it and have also changed the shape slightly to match the shape of the car better.
