Since the day I fitted it my 3" Tullet system has just got louder. Generally it doesn't bother me too much and when hooning it down the B roads I like the roar of a loud exhaust. However I would now like to make it quiter because: a) After the 3hr drive each way to Courtenays my ears were ringing and my head was hurting. The constant drone on the motorway is very tiresome. B) Its time to get some track days under my belt and I'm going to get laughed away from most tracks at the mo. The first thing I think I need to do is open up the backbox and re-stuff it. Pretty sure whatever it came with has long gone. But whats the best stuff to put in it (that will last) and how densly do I pack it in. I don't want to over or under stuff it! If that doesn't do the job I was thinking of replacing the CAT with an additional silencer. I am sure that somebody on here has done it but couldn't find the post. Where did you get it done, what did it cost and did it help? Obviously a lambda cheater will also be required! Any suggestions most definately welcome!

Is your box re-packable? I opened mine to repack it after a thousand miles or so and found it was fine. I may be asking Chris for a silencer to fit in place of the cat as I think with my new engine it could be too loud.

Pretty sure it is, has a load of hex bolts all the way around which I assume are to open it up!

Chris made me a silencer section to swap in, in place of the cat. Car was off the road for a week, whilst the cat section went across to them and they cut it and added the relevant bits.

Like Muncher, I opened up my main silencer and all of the packing (I spec'd the, at the time, upgraded stuffing) and it all seemed fine in there.

I really didn't expect much of anything from the silencer when I saw it but it's been surprisingly effective at dropping the noise to more manageable levels. Still not friendly enough for all tracks on drive-by's when the engine is under load but seems to breeze through static tests fine.

Downpipe with re-packable silencer cost met about £530 without VAT

How on earth are they going to fit Martin? Can't work out how anything can go on the tailpipes and be securely fixed in place.

Yes the Tullet is repackable. Mine is fairly loud but I've not found it that much of an issue as far as hearing comfort goes. I do worry about it on track though. I have booked Goodwood for end of August so we shall see.

They are being made by a guy who make them for race motorbikes. Being sorted by Frosty (a new member who lives down here and is a bike racer). Hes very confident they'll be good 'and'cheap! Am told they will be a tight fit and then held in place by a small screw which will involve drilling a small hole in the exhaust?! We shall see. Hes more confoident than me but thought it was worth a look as many vx'ers seem to be having trouble, and on a personal level, dont want to get kicked off my own charity track day at Goowood ij August!! Will post properly as soon as I have got/tested them. Martin s

Whats your results at courtney if you dont mind me asking and have you a picture of your graph. Did you make the 300bhp mark.

Alas not :( 281bhp, 241 lbft. That was partly due to having the rev limit set at 6800 (after Jimmy's valve float issues I figured it best since I'm not running double valve springs) and partly due to mapping on 95 octane fuel (which Courtenays seemed less than happy about!). However those aside my Torque curve seems to drop off ever so slightly more than a couple of the others I've seen on here so there is a restriction at the top end which I think is either a lack of porting on the exhaust ports (I basically just removed casting marks, didn't open them up much) or a 200 cell CAT (the others i've seen seem to mostly be 100 cell).

I don't have the graphs to hand but they are the smoothest curves I've seen yet!

Either way comparing mine and chris_uk's results seems a clear indicator that 3" makes very little difference up to 300bhp, which is slightly annoying as with a 2.5" I probably wouldn't be having noise issues!

Chris's cat did calapse though and without it it's mega loud! That said the Tullet cat will probably only get you a fiver down the scrappy I have never seen such a small cat :gayfight:

Try stuffing it with acoustafil. Its supposed to take off a db or so but you MUST pack with the right amount. From what I hear not many people can stuff an exhaust properly. Accoustafil takes a few miles fluff up apparently so be ready for it. Mine is too damn loud too and has a drone at cruising speeds. Let us know how your repack works out.

Try stuffing it with acoustafil.

They use Acoustafil anyway. At one point there was an option to upgrade to a higher grade of Acoustafil but I think they started using that as standard based on feedback.

Hasn't quite come to that yet!

I've been thinking, theres got to be room for something a little bigger than the one techie has pictured. For starters if I ditch the second lambda then it can be a bit longer, secondly I think there might be room for a much larger diameter oval shaped silencer. I might take it to a custom exhaust place and see what they can do.

I have the 2.5" tullet, but think the latest generation has 3" end tips.
Would love a removable db killer construction, was we don't have many different tracks here, and zolder is an extreem firm 95db one, with 2 measuring points on the track

As for acousta fill:

I'd love to do Zolder and Zandvoort but it's just not worth me wasting the time driving there, knowing full well I'll get kicked off. Just like Goodwood here. :(
