Why does this need to be re-set/activated??
No idea
Does the ABS light come on without the re-set???
Yes
Does the ABS work poorly or not at all???
Not at all if the light is on
Is the brake balance all wrong??
Dont think its a balance issue
Sorry if I am missing something,
Paul

I was wondering if the reset/programming needs to be done on each individual car a unit is fitted to or could a few be done on one car (say all at one time) then just swapped over to each individual car.
Mine was reset/programmed together with 20 others units all in the same car at the same dealership and then send to me. I´m using 17s on front an rear, on the front 215/45, on the rear first 235/40 now 245/40. It works perfect, since it was fitted to my car.
I can´t believe that I drove 4 years without it.

Ah... that makes me think that a SECOND HAND unit would work straight away....??
Any guesses anyone?
Best regards, Paul
Yes it does if you can find one. They tend to fetch good money though hence a GB with reset.

There is a GB listed. I posted that I'll happily sort one.
I also suggested to my lotus friend that I would lend them my car to reset all the units before dispatch so that they arrive in a 'plug and play' state. I dont know how reliable this is or if they can do this due to warrantee issues on new parts but I thought I'd ask.
Group buy yes please, definitely add me to list if circa £300 and will work at optimum on a VX.

Jesus this thread is difficult to follow and has a lot of statements that look very wrong to me.
I put an Exige unit on my Europa with 16" front 17" rear and it works great so I know that is true.
good luck to those of you buying new units.

Was your Exige unit new? If so did you have to have it re set?
Or second hand, again did it need a re set?
Best regards, Paul

"Deroure Ltd sell the exige unit at £434.71 and the Europa unit at £279.82"
Do you need me to investigate any differences with my tame lotus man? I'd need to know exactly what you're wanting to know so I ask the right questions.
I'd def be interested if it's the 4 channel for that price!

Just to be sure it is only the plastic computer part that needs changing not the heavy part below with the brake pipes going into it???
Paul
Yes, that's it !

Just to make it complete: the ICE MODE is a phenomenon you may provoke with ANY ABS unit in ANY car on the market. Only the way the VX-ABS reacts is absolutely bull... You may provoke any ABS driving over a bumb pushing the brake on top of it. The ABS unit sees different wheel speeds because front wheels have a longer way to go uphill, additionally they loose grip after the top of the bump while the shock absorbers need some time to relax. This will trigger the ABS for some tics. This happens in every car with ABS. No care where it comes from.
The problem with the VX-ABS is, that it blocks the braking for some second almost completely. This does not happen anymore using the Lotus-ABS. For sure. Granted. Tested by many many users. It works a lot better in any other braking also, this is a nice addon. You will feel as if you are driving a completely new car concerning the brakes.
I just wanted to clarify my orginal post with the issue im seeing is when you accelerate and then immediately move your foot from the acclerator pedal to the brake pedal.
This causes the ABS to come on, irrelevant of the ground underneath the wheel/conditions etc. It happens on a dry flat road.
This issue is suposedly addressed somewhat with the Vauxhall customer satisfaction upgrade that was offered free between 2002 and 2008.
I'd be interested to know if anyone did this upgrade and saw any improvement....?

I'd like to know if the Europa ABS actuator is the same as the VX one and consequently is not a 4 channel unit.
Thanks
I'd like to know if the Elise 111R item is the same as that fitted to the VXR220 as I remember reading that was 4 channel & designed to work with the 16"/17" wheel combo?
Also the price of the VXR220 unit & if it's the same part numbers.
Cheers.
I'd also like to know if i go to the expense of changing my wheels from 17's to 16/17 combo, that the 111R/Exige ABS actuator will work, properly calibrated for the chassis differences and brake setup, on the VX...
