    REALLY??

Posted 29 July 2011 - 04:50 PM

just had a service done at local stealer. picked car up and is now idling lumpy......... they say it could be where they took coil pack off to replace spark plugs and may have dislodged some corosion in the pack and is causing it to miss-fire. is this plausable? engine warning light does not come on, when i had this on my saab the warning light would come up... any ideas, its going back in monday wk for them to put right , but i dont want them to fob me off with a bullsh*t cause and try & supply me an overpriced pack. if this is a probbable cause then should they put it right free, or should i buy a cheaper one elsewhere in prep?? they also think the geo is out as he could hear tyre noise on test drive, but ive never heard it, i was gonna get it looked at anyway, does anyone have a print out or settings sheet for a geo set up for road use, not going on track i just want it to go where i point it and not get uneven tyre wear. local race place say they take thiers to protyre....... i also wired up and fitted a nautilus horn, can i also connect the standard horn to it at the same time? will the bigger fuse for the naut be ok on the standard or will both horns be too much for the 20amp fuse? cheers guys..

Yeah tyre noise indicating geo is out is b****hit in my opinion, more than likely a tyre out of shape if anything?(what tyre's do you have on). Have a look on the seloc wiki link as I'm pretty sure they have all the geo settings on there,if not drop me a pm and I can print you off the settings.

Kh31's all round. They don't do geo work there so that was only a recommendation t get it looked at elsewhere. Will give WD40 a go tho, as long as it don't make it worse, got MOT on thurs.

Think I saw you Friday at 1pm by boughtons near the vaux garage. If it wasn't you then somebody was testing the acceleration of a red VX. Glos protyre should have the kit to do a geo but will need the settings. People mostly go for the 340r road setup - http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Geo_Setups

The coil pack is one piece. Did they fit the correct plugs ? Coil pack going down normally results in a misfire under load.

Yes, they are. They just pull off the bottom of the coil pack.

They've fitted VXR plugs. I don't know how much difference this makes though.

2.0 Except VXR - 9195109

ok,just picked the vxt up from bayliss, again, after they had it in to check out the lumpy idle...... now, if they are a supposedly "vx tech center" then they will not be wasting my time anymore....... all they did was a diagnostic, which revealed a code P0219 engine overspeed. i asume this is telling them i have gone past the red light at some point. is this anything to be worried about? as for the missfire, they sudgest a new coil pack and some more spark plugs at £219....... they didnt take the time to remove plugs and check if one had burn mark on it from missfire, or squirt coil pack with wd40 or the like, would've taken him 15 mins i spect...... no, they just wanne rush in and throw money at it like we all have that to throw around.... they would require 2hrs to check for underlying damage due to fault code, possibly ecu replacement and engine damage....?? anyone had this code before ??

I had similar response at TMS when i took mine in for a misfire diagnosis. 'We need to change the coil pack, then the AMM then possibly the ECU' ???   Anyway - I bought a coil pack from Auto Vaux. and put it in myself. Problem solved for just over an hours garage labour charge! Spraying with WD40 ca often solve it. However it is unusual that you aren't getting a misfire code coming up. Normally the engine management light would come on and a misfire code would be highlighted (I cant remeber the number off hand.) I'd try the WD40 and then a new coild pack personally.

I collected my VXT from a garage on Monday and on the way to Silverstone it started to run on three cylinders. If I switched the engine off it would restart and run on four but as soon as I put load on it the car would run on three again. I removed the coil pack which was dripping wet around the plug caps and even after drying out and spraying with WD40 it still missed under load although less so. Clearly the car had been left out in the rain without a cover and this is disaster for the coil pack. I picked one up from Autovaux today for £84 brand new Bosch part and problem solved. Trevor.

If it's any help. Standard spark plugs are very cheap so could be well worth popping in to your local dealer and getting a set. 9195109 - Retail £3.82+VAT each

To remove the coil pack you must first unplug the connector from the left hand end and then you are able to slide the cover from right to left about 25mm and then lift off. The coil pack is held in place with two Torx head socket screws and once removed the coil pack lifts off the spark plugs. Can't remember what size the plugs were, 18mm I think. I have Iridium plugs installed. Trevor.
