I was abroad in a barracks once, in a ground floor room that opened to the outside and we had problems with groundsmen stealing stuff from the rooms. We had a fair idea who it was so we rigged up an old radio with a release pressure pad det underneath attached to a small coil of det cord tied in a knot at the end (makes it go with a bang) inside the radio, and left it by the open door. Two guys come past mowing the grass with mowers in parallel. One guy reaches across and holds both mowers while the other guy nips in to steal the radio. Boom. Couldn't report minor shrapnel wounds to his had because he would have to admit being in the room. No more thieving after that.
