The Barge continues to amuse... In pulling up the passenger carpet to check the Comfort Control Module I found a hammer behind one of the trim panels. :rolleyes: However the new amusement is fuel economy. I had hoped to average around 50mpg, but 55-65mpg seems to be realistic and achievable. Just parked up after covering 432 miles this weekend and the guage says there is still a smidge over half a tank left.

I should have said, my B5.5 was a 2001 Y Plate and had 90K on the clock when I bought it in 2007.

When i picked mine up I gutted the thing and set about trying to fix all of the problems. I found a piece of wood in the pax door holding up the leccy window assembly :lol: and a whoopy cushion and toy BMW Z3 down the back seats :lol:

I even managed to get the vents off the dash to replace all of the vent winder bulbs. They were all dud when I bought it. I didn't even know there were lights in there, it was after being in a Passat Taxi in Ibiza that i noticed them. Sad i know, I just need to get these things sorted I can't help it.

I tell you one thing, the climatronic in that car was far better than the sorry effort found in my B6. :angry2:

Despite my previous post, I do like the Passats, even though the electrics annoy me at times. :rolleyes: They can't be that bad i went and got another one. :)

I did start by looking at the B6 and fell for the interior - as they have really figured out how to develop a smart, classy yet unfussy interior. The 2.0 TDI, though having different (yet fundamental) weaknesses is a much smoother engine and is one in which balancer shafts are appropriate (unlike the VX). Can't quite imagine what the 140 and 170bhp TDI variants are like as the measly 100bhp version I have is sufficient for most duties. A six speed box would also be nice... But then I did only pay £2.5k for it so I shouldn't expect too much. It is however going back to the dealer this week as I suspect the Idler tensioner is on it's way so hoping they see right to replace it (or whatever is creating the crackling noise on first start up).

I've shown a few cars a clean set of heels down twisties in it too with no drama as you just have to know the road and set the car upwell before the bend :lol:

:lol: Had a B5.5 last year. I know EXACTLY what you mean by this lol.....

Why you sell it Mr Mangham?

Combination of factors...
1. Clutch was starting to slip
2. Got bored of it
3. Came to the conclusion that a hatchback would be useful
4. I got a really good deal on part-exchange due to it being 'low-mileage' at 86k on a 02 plate... Getting over 100k would mean I would have lost £800 on what I bought it for, however (when factoring the extremely good price I got on the MG when swapping that for the Passat) I have ended up £50 up on what I would have got just part-ex'ing the MG straight in (that also includes the plate transfer fees).

So now I have a Ford Focus :rolleyes;

However there is some money tucked away... So if Mel finally finally gets a teaching poanthem the wedding works out to be less than forecast, then a little project may be had. ;)

Saw a VX the other week and felt sad... MX-5 would equal no chance of another VX, so trying to look after the pennies and buy a project at some point.
