As the pipe is ripped it needs replacing anyway. Got to keep the dear cars looking pristine. :groupjump:

Please, give it a rest 2.2_NA, the poor guy was just trying to give a example of performance to indicate the nature and effect of the problem.

Astra, I think you will be well advised to fit the Pro-Alloy inlet pipe. I think it's quite likely to solve this problem you have. Even if it doesn't it will protect your from the problem in the future. The kit is certainly worth the £100 odd quid and quite easy to install. In fact installing it will give you a bit of an understanding of where your turbo and MAF is and be your first step to learning about your car. Once your tackle these smaller jobs, it's starts to give you confidence about the larger ones and gives you lots of satisfaction. I knew little about my VX when I bought it 3 years ago and now I know just about everything about how the engine works.

If you lived closer to Bristol, I'd be happy to help you fit the kit (for free) and to try and diagnose your car's possible other faults. Let me know if you ever pass by my way.

BTW, even a heavily contaminated air filter will not directly cause the severe problem you described, however if it is badly contaminated it will increase the vacuum in the inlet pipe, so might be having a knock on effect. Thus you should inspect and replace it if necessary.

As an aside to this, I noticed my Europa has a metal pipe as standard (No 7 on this image). not as long as the alloy replacement, but would basically replace a section of the VXT inlet hose around the turbo heatshield...

B124E0027F - Intake Pipe - £62.76, a bit cheaper than the Courtenay one thumbsup

Cheers mate. Just had the pipe off and its all ripped. The pipe to me looks fine except the ripped plastic bit. Wonder what it is making the car slowish :( I will buy pro-alloy pipe though

Looks like heat has certainly got to the pipe, so it collapsing under acceleration is your most likely cause... As I mentioned, if you get the Lotus part, then cut your current pipe up where this bit fits, you'll save £40 thumbsup

Be very careful not to drop anything down into the turbo inlet tube or it will bugger your turbo fan blades up.

Stuff a clean rag into the tube or put something over it (and dont forget to extract it prior to re-assembly!).

Today i put some NGK iridium spark plugs in from the old astra and now the problem has gone :D :D

When I met up with you a month or so ago I told you I solved my rough idle with iridium plugs - the ones Courtenays sell to be precise! I didn't realise you'd replaced gash spark plus with gash spark plugs… stage 2 needs these to run properly iirc

I give up. Genuinely thought you were a troll at first, someone goes to see you to help (a complete waste of time it seems ) yet you still go round the same questions over and over. Of course it's not right you, just spend a fcuking minute thinking about! Either some attention seeking going on, or you need help.

He said he changed his spark plugs, im not a fcuking spark plug geek i dont know which is which. I said to the lad at halfords which ones i would need and i explained the engine wasnt standard its running more BHP, he pointed out the ones i needed. Yes i messed up getting the wrong spark plugs but like i said i didnt know the difference. The person who i met for help wasnt for the rough idle it was to compare the cars to see how mine was performing... the rough idle got mentioned in the convo. No need to be a twat im not a mechanic

That looks like the plastic has melted away, and yes the heat has done this. The top of the heatsheild looks ok in the photo, I'd check down the front of the engine to make sure both the upper and lower heatsheilds are there and have not disintegrated...

Astra - is the pipe actually OK? It's just that I've seen one listed on e-bay that looks like your old one. On this thread it looks like the pipe is buggered yet in e-bay its listed as being in good condition. http://cgi.ebay.co.u...d=p5197.c0.m619 I'd hate for a member on here to buy that pipe through e-bay only to find its not in the condition that its listed as. Would be very useful if you could clarify its exact condition and for some clear pics of the pipe to be posted. Thanks
