Astra - is the pipe actually OK? It's just that I've seen one listed on e-bay that looks like your old one. On this thread it looks like the pipe is buggered yet in e-bay its listed as being in good condition.
North east so the same area he lives in

Lol i knew i'd get accused. No its not mine and if you would like proof i will get the newspaper with the date, stand next to my shitty pipe and smile
Its still on the car, need a bit more money untill i can buy a mental one... i've been thinking though, as the car is still slow as soon as i start the engine. Maybe its not the pipe collapsing?

aslong as your tyres wear evenly then imho no 'need', especially as you will want to get the camber etc checked once you lower the car anyway.
I ran for about 3 years with all 4 wheels pointing in different directions and never 'really' had a problem with that as the tyres wore evenly

Depending on how the VX is set up, they tend to under-steer before they over steer. That's the cars way of saying too fast. Or at least that's what they do on standard wheels/tyre. I haven't driven a 16/17 set-up but would imagine they are still much of the same, again dependant on your geo.
Adding 16's will give you a little more front grip (as you will be running wider tyres I'd have thought) and therefore the front is less likely to let go. Got to admit, it was nice at Bruntingthopre the other weekend when the front was letting go rather than the back end. Then again that was probably my in-experience. Are you planning on tracking it? Get your engine sorted before you worry about the suspension, aesthetics should really be coming after general servicing/maintenance.
I'm sure there is something else about the 16's and the difference the size makes, as in not just the ability to run wider tyres but can't remember what exactly.
