Astra - is the pipe actually OK? It's just that I've seen one listed on e-bay that looks like your old one. On this thread it looks like the pipe is buggered yet in e-bay its listed as being in good condition.

North east so the same area he lives in

The ebay one looks like its from a breaker, as it has 05 or 03VXT tipex'd on it. I don't think an owner would have to label it to remind them that it came from their car  The seller has listed other vehicle parts before

Lol i knew i'd get accused. No its not mine and if you would like proof i will get the newspaper with the date, stand next to my shitty pipe and smile :P Its still on the car, need a bit more money untill i can buy a mental one... i've been thinking though, as the car is still slow as soon as i start the engine. Maybe its not the pipe collapsing?

I would have thought once the rubber has degraded due to the heat and started collapsing, it would then have lost its rigidity and thus would collapse even when cold. your best replacing it once you have the money!

I will do when i get the cash :) I got a quick question whilst im here, im waiting for my TD wheels which should be here next week. I want to lower it with gaz gold but wont have money for a while so it will need to be at standard height just now. Will i need to get a geo setup when the new wheels are on? Hasnt been done since 2009 theres a lot of nasty pot holes i've hit :( Dont want to rub away my new tyres quickly... do you think its worth doing the geo or will it be ok?

aslong as your tyres wear evenly then imho no 'need', especially as you will want to get the camber etc checked once you lower the car anyway. I ran for about 3 years with all 4 wheels pointing in different directions and never 'really' had a problem with that as the tyres wore evenly :)

And did the car handle well still? I've heard the VX handles better with the 16's at front, how come? Also, i've never had a car that handles so well... best handling car i've had was a C2 vts lowered LOL, in the wet i dont bother going fast but in the dry i get a bit scared as to how far i can push the VX round the corner/bend. I have LOADS more confidence in the vx than any other car, how do i find the limit? When the rear twitches?

Depending on how the VX is set up, they tend to under-steer before they over steer. That's the cars way of saying too fast. Or at least that's what they do on standard wheels/tyre. I haven't driven a 16/17 set-up but would imagine they are still much of the same, again dependant on your geo. Adding 16's will give you a little more front grip (as you will be running wider tyres I'd have thought) and therefore the front is less likely to let go. Got to admit, it was nice at Bruntingthopre the other weekend when the front was letting go rather than the back end. Then again that was probably my in-experience. Are you planning on tracking it? Get your engine sorted before you worry about the suspension, aesthetics should really be coming after general servicing/maintenance. I'm sure there is something else about the 16's and the difference the size makes, as in not just the ability to run wider tyres but can't remember what exactly.

Suggest that you take a serious look at the link Slindborg has posted if you want to find the limit Many in the past have found the limit by thinking "oops" half way around a bend and lifting on the throttle at the same time. It's one approach to finding the limit which generally leaves you without a drivable car.

Cheers mate. I've never had understeer in the VX, only oversteer. I've had oversteer once or twice going round a bend fast but the front has never stepped out first
