Who knows? However their previous business direction hasn't exactly been a profit making exercise. If it weren't for GM's cash injection and investment they may not be here today. Sadly I don't think the market size of the Elise type buyer is large enough to sustain any kind of profitable longevity. It seems that you have to go super niche and super low volume <500 per year or build a car that has a bit more sporting mass appeal which means compromise on the things us VXers love..
No huge roof scoop, Boooooooooooooooooooo
Think Lotus are making a massive mistake with their new business direction.
The definition of madness is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. They are trying something different, I sincerely hope it works out and that as part of their range they keep a low end, light weight offering to keep us enthusiasts happy. Until they can rival the solidity and quality of the Germans they will have a limited market.

I like the idea of the rear window, with the engine on view.
I can't help thinking though, that it will get extremely hot underneath that glass, if it's heat is anything like the heat that our VX engines produce through the air vents.
It's just like the Europa. My car has a small grille at the top of the hatch to vent the turbo exhaust heat 'chimney', but has a large glass window over the engine
Not sure about the rally car, but the 'standard' model, hmmmm... Ticks a few of the design boxes I'd like.
• Clear engine cover
• Rear visibility
• 5 stud wheels (hopefully 112)
• Aggresive revision of Elise arse
Thought of a Europa instead, it ticks 3 of your 4 requirements

It's OK. I quite like the styling but at the end of the day it's not too relevant to me as I can't see myself being in the market for it. I'd rather a lighter, less powerful and cheaper car that would be just as fun.
A vxt then Sam

He said lighter and just as fun. Not a heavy crate that doesn't handle.
