£20 says its not the headgasket.... They very very very very very rarely go on the 2.2... infact I think I've only seen one gen failure and 1 other that looked like HG but wasnt  Even the terbow doesnt head HG's with big tunes :) Look to see where the steam/fluid is coming from. What jobs were carried out during the service?

Thanks for support and well wishing guys chinky chinky

sh** Stuwy, really sorry to read this. Posted Image

I'm a mechanical imbecile and therefore I can't be of much, if any, help but I hope you manage to get it sorted relatively painlessly.

its both mechanical help and what do i do about the garage, what are they responsible for and what i should expect them to fix or me to pay for.. :(

Whip the coil pack off and see if the plug holes are full of coolant. It is possible to crack the head (although unusual) by overtightening the plugs. Check your expansion tank for cracks it may be possible its cracked and is spraying coolant onto the engine perhaps?

I'm going to take the coil pack off and have a look, its been raining since i went for an eye test so once it stops raining i'll do that.. was not raining and quite sunny when i went in

oil, oil filter, plugs, air filter, coolant, fuel filter (tba).

Oil cooler failure is the one that is normally mistaken as head gaskets. It certainly doesnt look good for the plugs as thats not toooooo rare on those engines. At least if it is the garage should sort it for you at no or minimal cost. Fingers crossed they'll just offer to sort it to so you dont have hassle

ok, took it off and as i pulled/wiggled upwards i herd squelching (like Wellingtons in the rain).. put it to one side, looked down each spark plug hole and sparker 1 (closet to the expansion tank is wet and the other 3 are dry.. as no water or liquid is ment to be down any of the holes; i assume this means that it is an over tightening of plug 1? i dont know if i want to cry or punch something

Sad to say it sounds like it mate, just take loads of pics and then go into the garage with the info at hand. They will need to replace the head, so you get something for free (if you look at it another way) will just take time, don't know how long it takes to get one in mind.

Nope, real, which is how I found out, because I didn't believe it either. Though it might have had something to do with the owner being a complete mechanical numbskull and not filled up the coolant or something equally stupid.

Is it coolant, or rain water around the plug? I would imagine you would be able to smell the coolant on the coil pack if it is coolant.

Sorry Stu, sounds like an over tightened plug that has cracked the head. I have one here for emergency usage only which you can borrow and replace... Garage should cough for it but good luck proving it was them.

Known issue with the Z22 head.... should be easy

Although iirc the damage is done at undo time or something odd like that.
