i know it's a pain but do you not feel like you are letting them off lightly?
What did AmD say?
Your offer to them is too generous. Nothing is certain in this world, but if they refuse to replace the head, I would be issuing a summons - you have nothing to lose.

Quite right. On reflection maybe I should not have suggested posting it upIf Stuwy wishes to keep the report to himself, then there is nothing more any of is can do in respect of recovery.
The legal position is clear. Give garage opportunity to repair, if they refuse then have it done elsewhere and reclaim the costs. It may be a pain, but if it was my money, i know what I'd be doing.

Have you read my link above? If there was coolant leaking when Stuwy took it in they would/should have reported it. If they didn't why didn't they? because it wasn't leaking. They did a service which included a plug change. They give the car back and it leaks coolant. It's leaking from no.4 pot a known weak spot which requires care when tightening a plug. If it was leaking when they changed that plug why didn't they report it? because it wasn't leaking. It started leaking after they put the plug and over tightened it.I didn't mean it like that. If you're 'shaking with rage' one day, why hide the next? The report will say one of three things;
A, The head had a pre-existing crack/weakness and could have failed at any time.
B, The heads are known to be weak, there was no evidence of overtightening, just bad luck
C, The heads never fail until some dumb spanner monkey applies treble the manufacturer's torque setting and there is no reason not to deduce that is what happened here.
My situation rested on this logic albeit the situation was slightly different. The garage replaced my head FOC.

Reverse torque is never the same as tightening torque, even after removing it straight away. You couldnt do the reverse torque thing anyway as it would of tightened to a certain torque then when the head cracked it would of lessened the pressure in the threads

It always seems to me whatever tightness you do something up to its alway fcuking tight to undo again.

i cant scan and post the report as its not on a4 paper and the scanner i have access to is a feed though job (wont fit)
TBH i just want my car FIXED now, yes i'm still very angry but more so now disappointed. its hard for me to get in a state of rage and stay there (like i was when i was typing that message).. i need the car back because it my only form of transport, without a car i can't get anywhere..
i have already allocated my "stag do" savings to get it fixed but its not enough to cover the whole cost.. if the garage pays me back the service costs then all i have to do is find about 50 more quid (credit card) and i'm back motoring.. if i wait for them or take it though the courts its going to take months. So i figured if i can get it back on the road quicker thats better for me.. already poaching lifts this weekend...
How much are you being quoted if you dont mind saying. And for what parts being replaced?

gathering parts and doing the work myself with some help of some amazing people
Phew, should be about as cheap as it can get then. Once you get the parts in fingers crossed it'll be done in a day.
Dont just bin your old head either. Sell anybits you can off it or keep as spares. Then with the cracked head you should be able to scrap it in as dirty ally and get a little money back

This thread makes my sh1t itch. Injustices like this make me soooo angry.
Can we have a whip round to get you motoring again? I'll chip in. It'll only take a fiver each from 10 of us to get you rolling. Then we can loft the old head through the screen of a car at that garage.
Would be up for that.
