I was doing some 'net research about the saab b204 and i found out about volvo b204. They say, in general, that is even better

than saab's lump with piston oil squirters, sodium filled exhaust valves and forged ...thingsPosted Image.

Here some info http://forums.turbob...ad.php?t=173001

and http://www.k-jet.org...alve_engine.pdf from a post of the above forum.

They say its weight is about 165kg or 364 lbs.

what do you think?

Oh, and it is mounted longitudinal in the volvo.

The 2.0L turbo 204GT engine is quite rare and also quite old. It was used in some versions of the 740 turbo for some markets where taxes were based on engine cc's where anything <2000cc usually fell in a lower tax bracket and anything over 2000cc was taxed heavily. Mostly Italy and Spain in those days. Biggest difference is that the 204GT uses a 16-valve head which was used in N/A form in the rest of the world with the B234F engine. The rest of europe/world got the B23ET and later B230FT engines (2.3L turbo), but these are 8-valve engines. Common tuning options on old Volvo's is to take the lower (cast-iron) block from a 2.3L B23ET and use a 16-valve head from a B234F and then boost the hell out of it. 500+HP is no biggie. As noted.. These were all used in the older, RWD, Volvo's, so are meant for longitudinal mounting and not suitable for transverse. For that purpose you'd need to look at the later (850 and onward) 4, 5 and 6 cyl full alu engines and gearboxes. The latest incarnation of the 5-cyl turbo was/is also used in the last Ford Focus series. Unlikely that the inline 6-cyl twin turbo from the S80 would fit transversely in a VX. The 5-cyl turbo from an 850/S70/S60 might squeeze in there, but it would be tight.. 4 Cyl turbo from the S40 T4 should fit without issue. Lots of tuning potential though.. Now.. The 4.somethingL Yamaha based V8 engine from the XC90 and late S80's in a VX would be nice :) Wiring will be 'interesting' for any of the engines from the later S/V70's onward as Volvo went heavily to CAN and other local bus connections for the ECU and rest of the car. Bye, Arno.

gearbox custom housing bespoke mounts diy software mapping plus packaging it all whereas the Saab B series bolt on to standard VX running gear , even more so the later stuff. Trionic software tuning suite is fantastic. or you look at Z28NET for a nicer sound as thats a very tightly packaged and integrated v6 turbo, again bolts onto VX gear and still trionic mapping. saabs and volvos do seem to sell for silly cheap money for perfectly good runners so plenty of donor cars, compared to their VXR versions

Volvo took the volcano approach with CAN and that basically locks you out from cocking about with things unless you have tons and tons of insider knowledge/source code.

Woah, thats too many good reasons not to go VolvoPosted Image

I think then that i ll go for a saab b204 project as they are easy to find, cheap and good for 500+.

Not forgeting about the T5! Amazing how easy is to tune this ecu. I think someone

has a vx b204 with 600hp!

Only problem that i can think is the height of the engine, they say its too tall.

Maybe a dry sump will do the job.

Any info about the "b204x in a vx" will be well acceptedPosted ImagePosted Image

Does it need new mounts?

Thanks a lot!Posted Image

I think that its going to be way more expensive to extract 500 horses out of it... Or not?

I slowly began my project and i ve decided to go down the B204 road... I have a question though, if anyone knows: I am have a B206 block, which is the same with a B204, without the balance shafts. Also lacks the piston oil squirters of the B204. In that place (where the oil squirters should be) it is machined as if they were there but there are no holes. Do you think that the in-block oil piping exists, so i can drill some holes there?

you have to tap out the feed for the oil squirters though as the n/a didnt need them so they werent fitted. oh and theres no return hole for the turbo in the block either.

Oh, ok. So the in-block piping exists; i just have to drill the holes.
