Mapping OE solenoid throught the ECU is 'cleaner', however a boost controller is sooooo much easier and gives more direct control over boost (instead of it changing with the weather, literally). As long as the fuel, ignition, MAF, etc. are mapped for that boost level then no reason not to run a boost controller.

If your ecu has proper closed loop boost control (which I assume this one does) there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to add a boost controller.

Aftermarket or OE ECU? Some OE are a pig to map to stop the boost ringing when you change turbos. If decent aftermarket, then no there should be no need for a boost controller.

After all, if people like Simon and Duncan didn't push the boundaries we would all still be driving OEM factory cars.

Nothing wrong with driving an OEM factory car! You make it sound like its inferior Nev.

Just spoken with DG :)

The only problem Chris is having at the moment is holing the power back!!!!

The response is virtually the same as a K04 but... At 3500rpm its producing 250bhp... It then goes linier and at 4000rpm is producing 28psi!

Chris is amazed at the response and power the Garrett's producing and more mappings required to try and smooth the delivery out! :D

So very very pleased with where we are at right now, no boost leaks, no coolant or oil leaks, perfect running temps & AFR's, just got to try and control a turbo that just wants to BOOST! :)

To be continued...

Excellent news, 250 BHP @ 3500 RPM is about double what mine makes. Makes me realise how badly I need to put some verniers in mine and check the timing of my Piper cams.

thats approx 370 lbf of torque which is same as mine, and sounds like massive fun on track if it wants to give even more at more rpm.

Being finalised today :) We all got very excited at the 28psi @ 4000rpm but turns out the waste gate had stuck forcing the turbo to go 'all out'!!! That issue sorted & Chris is trying different spring rates to suit, but looking at slightly more realistic power levels now! Hopefully more to report later :)

Aren't you running a tial waste gate? Unusual to have one of them jam, they are very good quality. If you set the spring rate as per the guide lines you will find that, given decent boost control, you can have a broad range of boost levels without a spring change. I find on mine I can easily go from 2 BAR through to 2.7 without a spring change and I don't need any more scope than that.

Yep your right Chris, a lot of range available through boost control Running 0.6bar spring atm but the 1bar one going back in today. The solinoid was able to hold upto low 20's on the 0.6bar spring last night without any issues. DG
