Was it welded up after the base plate was skimmed? If so that might explain why it warped, as the heating from welding can make thin to medium plate warp
Exactly what Dave thought Nev!

found this image of an LEH on a Corsa that shows it well, not quite so easy to get to it on a VX with a 'V' band manifold tho!!!

Crankcase breather pipe setup from sump to rocket cover :-)
DG
He's got a rocket cover?!
Ahh Haa!! That's it... your work on Luke's car halted whilst you try and fit a rocket to a VX... now there's an engine conversion... Already been done though... so get back to Luke's car!

Think we are on crank breather revision 3 on the car we have here on the Klassen manifold. Also now on the 2nd re-machining job on the 4th exhaust manifold!
Not good chris :-(

Been over at Dave Hardwicks today where he very kindly let me use his ramp to take a look at where the oil leak was coming from
Anyone who was at the Midlands Meet on Sunday will have seen the car smoking away & smelling eau de '10W50' whenever it pulled up
It looked like the base of the rocker cover to block oil pipe so took it off to have a look...
How the fk is it that out... you could almost stick a 1p piece in the 'off' so Dave very kindly machined it back for me, but the quality control on some of the parts supplied has been shocking to say the least and its why weeks after the build finished we are still tracking down the final 'niggles' easier to live with if you find it's something we'd not torqued up correctly, but more annoying when you find its just its just crap parts
Quick look under the car at the trays when I got back though and looks like its sorted now, will check properly Sunday tho!
why didn't you check that before you fitted it. Given the proximity of exhaust and turbo heat , plus some nice oil and petrol vapour , you are lucky not to have had a serious fire.

Steve tbh looking back should have checked and not assumed a flat section was not based on it been a simple item and with that gap even the new gasket was well never going to work lol. Especially based on the fit of the other items.
The reason people buy kits / parts is to save time and costs but have to say over the years have not had many things like this not do what they say on the tin. You should not have to measuring everything to check it fits
If you were to buy a kit and it stated you may need to mod some items / check quality and you were happy with this fair enough

I just hacked apart my old breather pipe with a saw to create a stub and then used silicone pipes to make the bends to avoid the exhaust manifold. Not the best solution, as silicone pipes dont like 130 degree hot oil. I have wrapped the pipe as well and touch wood it seems to be fine.
Hand me the keys and a race track I'll give that setup 15mins!

I know it's not good; even the OEM rubber pipe fails commonly.

Well whatever the results tomorrow its a MASSIVE thankyou to DG for literally giving up 3 weeks of his life to help me & complete this project!
and also to Dave Hardwick for just being amazing - is there nothing this man can't fabricate & design to the highest quality?! - Thankyou!!!
and Chris @ EFi - such a modest guy who's so so talented
So lets see what tomorrow brings but the end is definatly in sight!
Bet Duncan wishes every engine bay he works on was this clean!
