Car went back up to EFi on Monday for a health check & the first run on the dyno showed the car 20bhp down on before so something was wrong, Chris went through the mapping and tried a few things but the most he could get the car to do was 352bhp and overlaying the dyno sheets from last time the turbo was having to work a lot harder & run the car richer to achieve this 'its definatly mechanical' said Chris :(

Tuesday Dave H did a full compression & leakdown test on the engine and it was in perfect health :) leak down on all 4 cylinders was 98/100!!! Imnotworthy Craig your dad builds a good engine!!! thumbsup

So Dave decided to pressurise the inlet system & check that with a very handy homemade attachment which finds leaks in seconds!

Posted Image

Turns out I'd a large boost leak so an easy fix & more amazed that the car made 352bhp with that!!! can't wait to see what it can achieve now fixed!!!

One other problem was the engine at high rpm was building too much crank case pressure I'd vented both the engine & gearbox to seperate filters but now need a breather off both sides of the cam cover not just the one, so am taking out the rubber hose to crank case & Dave H made me a breather pipe (thanks again Dave! thumbsup) to replace it with which I'll 'T' piece into the existing catch tank & see how it is :)

And you made him polish the T piece by the look of it :D Be really interesting to see how it performs after the I/C is repaired - as discussed could have been leaking to start and your actually producing 657bhp :P Engine looking nothing other than...........................bling tastic ;) DG

nope I'll take the credit for that!!! :D

I 2000grit wet/dry the alloy first to get a perfectly flat surface then polish with a dremel & very soft mop, then finish by hand with a seal skin micro fibre cloth even using a normal micro fibre cloth with tarnish the finish, after that just normal polish by hand to keep up the shine thumbsup

Oddly enough someone did ask me today if I'd seen the program last night on people with OCD... can't think why!

Well went back to see Chris @ EFi this afternoon now with boost leak fixed and first run on the rollers.... 384bhp! Second run with a little more boost... 392bhp and that was only 20.5psi - with a boost leak it was pushing 24psi to produce 352bhp so plenty more there! Then on the next run the car misfired & cut out & then refused to re-start, we spent about 3 hours looking for the cause but it really needs ramps & stripping down so GreenFlag recovered me back to Birmingham :( Possible causes, slipped a tooth and the cam timings out though we did borescope all cylinders & quick compression test & all looked good, the crank sensor is slightly scored and looks like the toothed wheel is out of alighnment and catching it on rotation so crank bearings? something definatly loose there anyway & needs inspection :( So when repaired its definatly good for over 400bhp 'as is' no need for higher lift cams ect just need to get this stripped down & assessed now and go from there

Oooh. Great news for the power hike (and speedier spooling no doubt). I expect you probably know, but check the needle on the cam belt pulley tensioner is within the min/max marks. Hopefully easy to remedy with a new pulley tensioner (and belt possibly) if it is that. Funnily enough I was inspecting my boost pipes the other day and could see a witness mark where lots of grubby boosted air has escaped from one of my boost pipes where the Mikalor clamp has a join and hasn't seated properly. This might explain why power has dropped so low recently. I should really ring DH up and ask him to make me one of those boost pipe pressure testers whilst my clam is off.

392 BHP with just 20 PSI of boost is great news. With another 5 PSI you should easily see 425+ BHP IMO and probably close to 430 to 450 BHP with 10 more PSI. You'll need to get a mod to alter your thread title (again!) ;)

I didn't read as he was 'giving up', just that he's happy with the power he's got so is not taking it any further.

I know that feeling! Im in the middle of a water pump change at the moment. Best to leave it as it is then, 392 BHP is enough to mince anyone you want anyway.

Had the same impression. You get to a certain point in projects where you just want to enjoy driving what you have rather than spending time and money to improve something you hardly get to drive because it's allways having 'improvements' done to it.
