Right well we had our first event at Cadwell last weekend. We didnt do too well but this was because our dreaded misfire was still present. Darron got faster through out the day as he learnt the track but we were still well off the pace. The car was like a kangaroo coughing and spluttering so he couldnt drive any where near the limit around the corners. His fastest lap was when the car gave no boost what so ever so it was like an na and the misfire was alot better.

Reading comments from sizetenboots doesnt half p*ss me off when he puts ffs darron push that pedal! Everyone new we had problems going into this but didnt stop to think it could be the car and not the driver. Anyone thats done trackdays with Darron will know how quick he is in a car that is normally setup very badly but his i dont give a sh*t attitude means he just gets on with it.

Anyway, We have decided to have a break from the car for a month which might seem silly given that the next round is only a week later. It takes over and its constantly on your mind, we all have full time jobs and Darron has a holiday booked. We have a trackday at croft on the 6th may before the TA day on the 11th. We have changed every sensor already but im going to take everything off my car as we know that all works and try again. If this doesnt work then my old ECU is going on. If this doesnt sort it more K seal is going in. Im confident that by the end of the trackday we will have either sorted the car or know that we have a problem with the engine. Hopefully its right for croft but if not we will make sure its right for snetterton! Im sure by the end of the season we will have put in some decent times that really show what we can do!

At least the donkey looked the part

George/Darren, have you checked that the dreaded crank timing wheel bolts haven't partially come lose/broken, which could cause the crank sensor to not pick up the crank position 100% of the time? Fairly easily checked by taking the sumps off and turning the engine over and check each of the 3 bolts. Also, check the crank sensor is tightly bolted on and that the gasket isn't too thick (which might push the sensor too far away from the wheel).

Not checked them no. Reckon by now they would of sheared or wound right out though as this has been a problem for a long time. I fitted a brand new crank sensor at oulton but it wasnt a Bosch one just a autovaux special. Ill be trying a bosch one at Croft.

Don't blame either of you. Don't suppose Liam will be overly sad to have a break from it, for a while, either.

Liams the one that wants to sort it earlier. Its his name all over the car so doesnt look too good for his business. Not his fault at all though and he cant test it on the road to find the fault or prove what it is. We will sort it eventually. Its not going back to mmg before Croft, we will sort it our selves as it takes too much time and fuel to get there. I still think theres a fault with the engine as when we had the k seal in it improved the misfire. The coolant was flushed when the head gasket was done then it missed the next time it got driven in the first TA practice.

And headlights and brake lights. I need my licence for my job so driving a blue vx registered as a silver vx flat out down the road isnt going to happen!

We considered it but not sure if the problem would show up. Then we would have to keep swapping bits so would cost a bit. We have gone through our options and decided to leave it for now.

Cars miss on the dyno much more readily in my experience. Especially on the vx the dyno seems to put more loading on than the road. Worth a go George.

Its more the fact we will have to drive it hard to get it to fault, therefore drawing attention to our selves anyway.

Is there any faults coming up to point at a cylinder? What do the plugs look like? Have you changed the injectors? You've done the loom haven't you?

From what I've heard, the loom has been changed, injectors and ecu are next. Compressions weren't great before but are all good now after the head was tested and skimmed and new gasket fitted. Can you imagine if it was an injector, bet they would be fuming! Fingers crossed for you curing the problems. thumbsup
