Send your ECU off to them mate. Thats what the guy who owned mine did as wasn't on the mainland of the UK. The map is a full stage2 and made 242bhp while the chargecooler pump was out of action.

Yeah I was a bit confused as to what rev limit they put on the base map. I had hoped it was 5500rpm as I'd heard, which would have been fine for a few months perhaps, as it's a ~1000 mile round trip for me. Alas they informed me it's limited to 4500rpm..

Found this little animation that shows the bypass valve operation which, sadly enough, I thought was quite interesting. :)

Hey Smiley, how did you go about repairing the temporary hatch you cut in the front sill?

Glue 2 squares against the rear side of the sill, with small parts sticking out to the middle.
Then put the cut out piece back. I did not glue it back in, just in case i need back entrance to it.
Then cover that complete clam part with a few layers of black foil.

The sill cover removal trick that is used in the UK is a cleaner solution, if you have the fiddeling time, and don't mind the 2 white foam pieces destroyed.

Maybe cut the hole the same shape as those kidney things that cover the gubbins in the doors - then plug them with those? That is supposing you could get hold of those parts for a reasonable price, and that its even worth it

Of course the gasket goes on, before putting it on the engine:

A couple of question about this.
I have been reading something about modifying the gasket before putting it on. Did you do this and if you did, how?
What is all that blue stuff in the middle of the gasket?
Did you use some kind of gasket-seal to glue the gasket on the manifold?

do not modify the gasket, the CMS mapping cannot cope with the extra flow created and you don't need to use any gasket sealant, just clean the mating surfaces

Great write up! A couple of quick questions: what is the (new) parts cost of an SC conversion? Whats the ball park figure for getting the S/C itself second hand?

Rather than searching through pages and pages of forums I thought that someone who knows could just post it up. Obviously the VX220 community isnt as friendly as I thought. I'll ask on the Z4 forum, they are a lot more helpful! :P

Everything you ever wanted to buy for your DIY SC conversion:
http://www.courtenay...rts/cat_99.html

As you see the SC and manifold do 2178 pound new.
Used can be found on ebay US around 300$ for the SC, and 400$ for the manifold. Then of course shippingcosts.
All the rest you can get from courtenay.

Just noticed no pictures on the map sensor swap, but hope that's abvious.

I feel stupid but it's not.
Where do you put it?
And where do you put the sensor that was in the plastic inlet pipe?

Lee and I (with the help of Vocky) have done two conversions using only new parts. costs around £4k, maybe slightly more.

Yep, as JG said. With some negotiation and haggling you can reduce the price of "all new" conversions. Buying bits from a variety of sources helps. Cheers, Lee.

Don't worry; there are no stupid questions on a conversion like this.
Have a look on lhe left side, where you see the map sensor in the inlet manifold.

As for the plastic pipe your oem setup has; it currently has 3 connectors in it:
- air sensor (which has to be moved to a location before the throttle)
- valve cover breather (either reroute to to the same locatino as the air sensor, or put a filter on it. (which can smell a bit more), or an oil catch tank, as on boost it may spit out goo, instead of just fumes.
- Fuel pressure hose. That is also present on the SC manifold. (make sure to use a vacuum type hose)
