Someone at work was asking me how it compares to the vx a couple of days ago.

And of course they can't really be compared.

The Golf is quick, very quick for a diesel and probably very similar in real terms performance to the vx. In reality the Golf is a lot easier to drive quickly more of the time. It is very hard to break grip in corners in the golf, despite my best efforts i haven't really found the limit. It will spin its wheels off the line in 1st, 2nd and 3rd though. Its a temendously comfortable place to be.Phone is accessed by fingertips and usually when i get in the car to go home, by the time i've arrived i've only just finished playing with the toys on it.
Despite it being rather boring to look at, a huge amount of effort has gone to every detail of it.

But it could never be an only car, and this is how i put it. The vx takes you on a night out, has a few too many drinks with you and carries you home. Its that sort of a friend 'I'll say nothing, if you don't'. If you had to have two smilie for the vx is would be these:
:D ;)
The golf on the other hand, can do fast, but it's a bit above all that. 'Why don't you settle down, behave and watch that mpg' It doesn't have the same willingness.
Its smilies are :rolleyes: :sleep:

and you end up with this when you get to work:

I actually saw the stone (about 3cm diameter) coming towards me at speed this evening on the way home from lhr. Couldn't quite avoid it. It make an almighty sound.

Apparently its a pain to change as its an acoustic screen (makes a noise to make the engine sound better - which it does) on the plus side, i've already got lots of smaller chips/marks on the screen.

Yep, its pretty accurate. On long motorway, eco runs it nearly will do what the computer says, with a record of 82mpg on a 190mile run. I filled it up again after that and it was more like 75mpg. In the last 10k it has averaged 54mpg and thats a combination of driving it hard and motorway cruising. I can't get it below 35 however hard i try. Its due a front tyre change this week, so they've done pretty well.

reason I ask is a lot of diesels over state the mpg , whereas the petrol models do a lot better than marketing would suggest.

Technically not a shed Posted Image

We call them 'sheds' but really they've gotta be under £500 to qualify, a brand new Golf GTD is hardly that!

Wrong! ANYTHING that's not a VX is a shed!

Corsa = Shed
Focus = Shed
Ferrari = Shed!

Enough Said chinky chinky

I'm not sure value defines whether or not something is a shed. I think its more about what it is. Having driven a normal Golf Match 1.6 (62 plate) a couple of weeks ago, i think i'd agree that the GTD probably isn't a shape in that context as the Match was properly shit.

Match was properly sh*t.

Compared to the GTD....

Compared to a 20yr corsa for £500, then it's not sh*t.

I'm sure we've had these discussions before ;)
