Good effort... But think the Autosol needs cracking open... JG would have a fit looking at the engine bay in that!

Actually bought some metal polish today! If i get the other manifold off i may wrap the exhaust and then polish the tips. I still have a stud to drill out the head though which im putting off doing :(

Blimey. Looking at the pic I am guessing that the weight of the turbo and exhaust system has fatigued the union of the 3 to 1 pipes on the manifold. This sort of problem is quite common on various cars (like the clasic Cosworth YB engine which has this bizzar looking remedy). Maybe you can build/weld some sort of support bracket from a bolt hole in the webbing of the block to support it in future? I've done this as a precaution on Nipper as I felt the weight of the new manifold and turbo was going to place too much leverage on the head studs, and touch wood I've had no problems at all.

HTH.

There certainly seems to be plenty of room in that engine bay. Is the engine in general set further forward on the car than in the VX? Am also rather jealous of the speed at which you can remove the rear clam, this single issue is such a bugbear for maintaining the vx :glare:

hmm it is something to consider. one thing i have noticed is that the wastgate penny on the rear turbo spins when you flick it with the wastegate closed. gonna get the front turbo off and look at that one but hopefully will be able to make it close properly by adjusting the arm a little. im up early to get more done today as im away for 2 weeks from tonight. Need to finish getting the floor off then unbolt the turbo from'manifold and then manifold to head. Then drill out the broken stud :/ that will be the car then ready for new parts.

Well, power steering fluid done, spark plugs done, gearbox oil done, oil drained out and filter changed (must remember to put oil back in haha) Brake and clutch fluid changed. Someone mentioned the fact that my backbox is braced off the turbo and adding even more stress to it. I think what im going to do is put it back how it came off then take it upto my mates exhaust place up the road and remove it and get him to brace the right hand of the box on another rubber coming off an unused original mount. Got to head back down south now and dont think im back up next weekend :( Want to just crack on and finish it!!

An update i did last weekend on the noble forum:

Well, drove from Exeter to Doncaster last night to do a little more on the car. On my way back to Exeter now :/

Changed the fuel filter, got a whole new one rather than just the element. opened the old one and there was a good bit of sand in there. dont think it had been done for a while.
Also stuck one of those Motul roll over valves in.

Wrapped most of the exhaust but ordered another 50 feet to make sure i dont run out.

Nipped up to a mates place (Top Gear performance) and got a couple of bits of welding done to an exhaust bracket.

Then Ordered 4 new gaskets and 3 rubber bushes from Bullseye. Had to stand in the warehouse and compare them by hand Posted Image

Then went and got some stud extractors from BnQ and wangled a trade card while i was there. Getting the stud out is next weekends job though, fingers crossed it'll be easy!

Really hoping the manifolds turn up while im away on sennybridge the week so i can crack on on Friday night.
Needs an MOT and tax once its done then some new R1R's for the front for Anglesey on 7th July Posted Image

An update ive done just now:

Well despite spending the last week on Sennybridge and having about 15 hours sleep since i got up at 7am last Sunday ive done a little more today.
The manifolds still havnt turned up which im a little gutted about but...
Ive cut out the Nimbus to the right sizes for the heat shields.
Picked up the exhaust gaskets and rubbers.
Fitted the pro alloy breather, about the quickest job ive ever done on a car!
Sanded, neutralised and painted a little bit of the chassis that had rusted.
Changed the rear turbo oil drain hose, ill do the front when i can get underneath it again.
Also drilled out that stud. Tried to use the easy outs and they were being a pain so ended up just hammering a torx bit into it and it screwed right out :)
Just ordered 2 new front Toyo R1R tyres for £326.
Dont think im going to make the Pagent of power because even if the manifolds turn up this week, ill be fitting them next weekend, then MOTing the weekend after which is the weekend that show is on. If they dont turn up this week though it'll all be pushed right.
Also went to A&E today as my wrist has been killing me for 4 weeks, turns out i have Tenosynovitis in my wrist. So they've given me a splint for my wrist, just a shame i cant wear it at work :(
Edit: Forgot the pictures
Before and after tips from last weekend

Finished wrapping the exhaust today
Posted Image

Took not to far off 150 feet of wrap.

I was going to get my discs off today to get them skimmed as i have some good vibrations when braking from 100mph+ obviously doesnt effect me day to day but with the national coming up i should sort it. Hopefully removing and skimming will as i dont know anywhere around here that can skim them while on the car. But its still chucking it down!

Also about to order some new door seals. Going to send a picture of the profile to a seal maker place as im guessing they'll be cheaper than Noble themselves.

Couple more things done today before heding back to work tonight. Pretty much at a halt after this though untill the manifolds turn up.
Took the discs off and getting my brother to take them for a skim this week
Posted Image

Car looks funny back on its wheels with no discs behind them!

Also drained the coolant while i was at it and rinsed it through with the hose. Must remember to fill it up again at the end haha.

Then took the header tank off and stuck it in my parents dishwasher. I'll see how it comes out in an hour or so :/

Is all this work fairly typical for a noble or did you buy it as a bit of a project?

The manifolds are a common problem. Just while im changing those im giving it a full service and being a bit anal replacing heat shields and things. Services start at about £500 at a specialist although the first 3 services on my car came to just shy of £10k :/

Well got it back out and its revealed there is a small crack although not sure it was actually leaking. So i'll phone Ford and get a new one this week. Got the numbers off Nobleparts for the tank and cap

Well its at the MOT station. Quite a bit of smoke from the exhaust wrap defrosting haha, funny look on the testers face. Couldnt quite get all the floor on as it takes about 400000000 self tapping screws and i ran out of time. So when i get it back i need to check the oil, coolant and power steering fluid again. Re-fit the rest of the floor. Fit a new altornator belt as the one thats on squeeked nicely on the way to the station. Also need to put the breather pipe onto the breather. So hopefully all be done for lunch then nip up to see my mate at the exhust place to put the extra brace on

Its cost me an extortionate amount. In the region of £3k. Manifolds and 2 gaskets and 12 studs were £1283 in the end. The plastic wallet with this years service in is absolutely huge. Books stamped up now though and just got to motivate myself to put that floor back on and adjust one of the exhaust tips
