Fill the driver's sill with loft insulation. Pipe lagging is way too difficult to get into the cavity and feed it onto the pipe. You'll need access to both ends of the sill cavity to do this, but it's an easy mod.

Last winter I stripped the heater box and sealed it with RTV, then replaced the crappy metal hose (from box to cabin) with a silicone & stainless kit (ebay). No big difference, but I noticed that when tooling around at slower speeds, heat eventually trickled from the vents.....however, when at higher speeds (I get a 20 minute motorway blast to and from work each day, with few other road users around.....) all heat disappears. This suggests that the air passing over the car is cooling the heater circuit to the point that there is no more energy left in it to transfer.

I agree - the heat needs to get to the matrix in the first place! Lagging is a bit of a pain but do-able..

I also found that lining the soft top made a massive difference. I also find that in my MX5 that heated heats make a big difference, as leather takes ages to warm up.

Filter works a treat. It has virtually NO restriction. PM me if you want some material.

Pipe comes from https://www.europaspares.com/

Foam is packing material we receive at work. It is actually anti static foam. Not sure how much is knocking around. Again if anyone would like some, just PM me and I'll have a scout round and see how much I can collect. I would estimate I used at least 1 square meter of the foam (obviously compressed now).

Kind regards, Paul

could you please let me know which bits you bought from the site, this looks like a really good fix.

One of these works a treat. The convoluted tubing bends to exactly the shape you need and the two trumpets that come with it fit nice and tightly on the outlet from the heater box and the inlet to the air distribution plenum. Veritable bargain as well.

brilliant! that is my weekend plans sorted- seal up the matrix, wire in the heated windscreen and fit this.... and probably put the hard top on as well now.

i got one of these a few months ago when I first got the car , only thing you will have to do when
fitting the trumpet on heater box is cut the two of the rounded sides square as its a tight fit.

Sorry, yes, forgot about the trimming off the edge of the trumpet as I was doing it all off the car with a spare heater box and plenum. I found it easier to use a hacksaw than a Dremel in this case. thumbsup

Where would you get that insulation foam from? I've checked B&Q but they have nothing other than fibre glass etc... no foam :(

All the pipes and bends are from Europa spares. I would not really know where you could buy a square meter of the foam but I could probably find enough that is lying around at work for your needs. I can probably buy a square meter from one of our suppliers if you were stuck. Kind regards, Paul

I used a grinding wheel which was fine - my pipe came in the post and it was a lovely red - trumpets as well!

Well i've done what i could before it got dark. I took the wheel off etc but couldnt find where the pipe was? I took the sill off and cracked it a little on the side (getting carbon fibres ones anyway). Put insulation pipe around the pipes as much as i could then put loads of insulation foam stuff around the heater box, going out tonight so hope its better. Might try sealing the dash up a bit another day

Fitted :) Out of interest, because my direction knob is stuck... I have turned it all the way with pliers. But would the cabin vent be on at all when it should be up at the windscreen?

Did you flush out and clean out the heater box and have you bled the system post sealing?

How do you mean bleed the system? i did this about 2 month ago mate. I cleaned the box out and then sealed it but just connected the pipes back on and topped the water back up at the header tank.

Its weird how its cold when driving but when sitting still it gets warmish. Maybe i've done something to one of the flaps?
