I know! Tyres tyres tyres.....! I was looking for replacement rears (KUMHO ECSTA KU39 XL 225/45R17 94Y) and have come across what appears to be the right size, BUT they are called "Kumho Ecsta HM KH31 - 225/45 R17 W (91)". Not suitable for standard N/A rears? Or are they new? Anyone tried them? The KU39s seem to be in short supply right now.... Cheers!

Heard good things on here about the KU39's - 6-8 week wait from Camskill at the mo... I've had 31's on the front since Dec last year and they did me fine all the way through the horrible weather last Dec/Jan/Feb. The fitters didn't thank me for asking them to stick them on the wheel tho - veeeeerrrrry tight fit!

I use ku31s as winter tyres and they seem like a really good tyre for everyday use, I was getting a bit fed up with r888s in bad weather, have kumho replaced the ku31s with anything then?

So, am I being proper dumb? Obviously the KU39 REARS are exact same size as the Bridgestone originals (225/45 R17), BUT The FRONTS are a diff size (original Bridgie - 175/55 R17, versus KU39 - 205/45 R16) Are they much different? Harder to get them on? After the difficulty getting the KU31's on the front (Kumho XL - 195/40 R17) the fitter might run away sobbing....

Impossible to get on I'd say :D

If you have the standard front wheel you are pretty much limited to the Bridgestone (there maybe a 17in tyre which is wider out there that may do but I'm not really up on that.

The KU31 or 39 is for those of us with 16 inch fronts.

It seems the ku31 is still available in europe as mytyres have continued to sell the 225 long after everyone else dried up. Maybe the decision was made to push the ku39 over the 31 so they stopped 31s coming directly to uk (push up cost of ku39 in process).
You can get a few different tyres to fit the fronts ku31s and 39s in 195 40 17 ( some falkens and federals too iirc) yokahama S drive in 185 45 17. Also a dunlop or two.

Ku31 in the 195 were difficult to fit but do go on and stay on with no issues.

How about a part worn set of KU31 rears?? I've got the opposite problem to you, my rears are <2000 miles old and my fronts are at the limit (but can't find any)

I just bought a full set of Toyo Proxes PX4 for standard rims, the person I spoke to about Bridgestones said this was actually the better option, although they deal more with Elises/Exiges which I understand have a slightly different compound to those on the VX220.
