I was having a think about this whilst reading the bit of the 'Fed up with my Tullet' thread that discussed the shortcomings of the standard NA ECU and wondered if there would be much interest in a plug and play Megasquirt ECU replacement? They already do these for MX-5's and maybe if there was enough people who wanted one it could be worth getting someone like Phil Ringwood (ExtraEFI.co.uk) interested in building them. I'm not sure where MS is at with the fly-by-wire throttle which might be a problem, you might also need to put a trigger wheel on it but these are off the shelf from Weber IIRC, but on the up side you'd get more control over things, add another sensor for air inlet, can get it mapped at more places (or DIY if you're keen), and as most SC installs are broadly similar you might even be able to use an off the shelf map. Discuss.

MS is no where with ETB (that I know of, bar the freescale offshoot/skunkworks thing). I'd bet with about 20 units tops there is no market for a Z22SE pin for pin compatible unit :( Also mapping for MS is still few and far between from what I can see as there are too many variables in the builds etc for 'tuners' to be comfortable with it. MS is a lovely concept averagely executed. SS will be a lovely concept slightly better than averagely executed later on next year

Are you going to claim 200bhp from a 2.4 inlet, an air filter and a slindmap?

Once the OBD tuner guy finishes his mapping tools, this could be a very viable solution for high power (SC) 2,2 conversions without further hardware changes. He's now converting the Z22SE ecu's programming to a Speed Density mapping. But progress is slow and will not be cheap. (Probably if he makes it half the price, sales will go up by a factor 4...) Besides the now hot Z20LET ecu conversion you can think of the US LSJ ecu that is plug and play with the SC hardware and ETB. The HPTuners software comes with a powerful scanning tool, so it's quite good fir DIY mapping on te road. But also needs a 60-2 trigger and preferably a Saab head with cam sensor, so still not an easy conversion... (Well, it actually is easy when you simply dump a matching 2.0 Saab block into the VX.) And talking of Saab, there is someone very keen on the Saab Trionic ecu's...

I'm thinking of binning off the clio next year and getting a Saab with a T8 ecu in there to have a good ole play with it :) the T8 suite looks the nuts, very OEM style :)

Today we picked-up 2 fairly new Z20NET engines, both with the Trionic 8 still fitted. :D Will be an interesting winter project to see if twe can make hat can run in stand-alone application without the other CAN modules... (And if that proves to difficult, we simply fit them with an LSJ ecu. Job done. ;) )
