Why?
It's not like we are driving 250 gto's.
Over 7k made. A few get culled, and a few get butchered. Plenty of stock cars left.

Firstly if you say your budget is unlimited for the right car then I would suggest upping your 6-7k to 8-9k. Only a couple of 6-7k cars on pistonheads atm and 15 odd that are up for more. Secondly, you mention subtle mods but have talked about putting an RB26 in the back of a VX and bumper customisation which is definitely serious modification in the eyes of vx220.org. I imagine it would be pretty "back" heavy with an rb26 behind you! The C of G is already behind the driver with a alloy blocked 2.2 in it. Oh and I personally don't mind cars being seriously modified from an owner point of view. Means my standard unmolested car becomes even more rare, and potentially spare parts become more plentiful and thus cheap, as you take the standard bits off thumbsup Oh and please don't crash on the icy roads because I like my insurance the price it is! Good luck with the search.

Just had a quick google. People suggest an RB26DETT weights 240kg plus 100kg for the gearbox whereas the z22se weights 138kg, engine and gearbox. RB26 sounds a tad heavy to me. Surely not 350kg!?

That blue one is Fred666's car. Got one or two disapproving comments when he was modifying that car.

No way will a straight 6 fit in there. You'll need to move the nearside rear wheel out about 12 inches to even get the standard compact gearbox in there and if you do that, kiss goodbye to the subframe and suspension pickup points.

Havent read all this thread but i think i'll be the best one to ask lol  Coming from a astra VXR myself which wasnt standard, full Milltek race exhaust, ITG air filter, TMS stage 3 map, forge recirc valve, forge intercooler, limited slip diff, whiteline rear anti roll bar, eibach sportline springs, pro race 1.2's etc etc running 312bhp. I prefer the VX220 a mile off thumbsup The astra was very quick TBH at stage 3 (sh** standard) and is probs the same performance as a stage 2 VX220 turbo after 60mph but the astra is quicker after 140mph. The astra handled like crap, even with all the mods i did to it... imo too much power for FWD. The VX is very basic interior wise to the astra but i prefer that TBH. Two complete different cars mate, it depends what kind of car you want. Im going stage 4 pretty soon and it will blow my old astra away. The VX can be a bit hard to live with compared to the astra but the astra will never handle like the VX, it will never have the 0 - 60 the VX has and you will NEVER get people looking at the car like you do with the VX

 Indeed, solely from vx220.org, i took all the comments on board... and didnt give two shakes of a monkeys todger - now i have a car im happy with :) - for now.

As for Astra v VXR, maybe a little research into power to weight, handling, engine position, fwd v rwd etc So much difference in the two cars.
A VX220 although can be modified aesthetically is a car to be taken seriously, and driven seriously, yep Ive spent a load on mine making it look 'pretty' - much to other owners disstaste, but ive also ploughed the money into handling, braking, and engine mods to benefit from all areas of performance the car offers.

What im saying is the VX is a performance based track car, suited to B roads and sunday blasts, its not great as a daily driver but with a few tweaks can be used often and will suit the purpose if needs must.

Lastly, Its your choice and your car, dont let others dictate what you buy or how you modify, just think about things before you dive in head first, without sounding stereotypical, the VX220 is no boyracer hothatch
