Right, so how do they propose to map properly?

On the turbo, he uses the standard engine sensor readings and maps the ECU on the road and has a calculated dyno chart based on those sensor readings. Not sure whether that's even feasible on the Z22SE ECU due to how slow it is to update, the inflexible nature of it and the distinct lack of sensors to work with. Maybe he's booked some time at a 3rd party rolling road. Maybe a question better directed at Liam?

due to the detonation I have seen, I would not risk the mapping on a sc engine with an unknown factor.

IIRC that's how TMS started off doing the NA remaps before they bought a dyno. You can map an engine on the road however it really requires an additional wideband lambda sensor to be installed to make sure the mixture is correct esspecially with the lack of real control of the Z22SE. However it will be good if MMG can map them as CMS is along way from civilisation which a few years ago didn't mean much but with the increase in fuel prices it can add hudreds on to the cost of a remap.

:yeahthat: AFR is easy with a wideband, but your sparktiming should be somewhat correct for the SC and closely monitored during mapping...
(Do you have an OpCom? Then you can log for knock.)

CMS are a long way from civilisation also they have a very long waiting list.

An alternative tuner would be welcome.

Kind regards, Paul

Seems to be running fine but you lot have gave me paranoia now. I just assumed when I take it to MMG he will check it 100% safe, do a few runs and record data. I don't know anything about mapping though but I thought there are only two ways to map a car, rolling road or data log whilst drivin it?

You any idea of power then.....? Are you on your final map now or is it a base map?

Have no idea of how much power yet, I'm really happy with it but it would be nice to know how much bhp it has. @JJJ, I've got a final map in already, Its a generic map for a stage 2, not chasing any big bhp figures, just a safe base map for a stage 2. Liam said he will check it over when I get it down to him, he's got external knock sensors and other gismos to do sufficient checks on it. I asked about a bhp read out on a dyno and he said he records his bhp figures whilst driving. Whats this detonation your on about? Bang went Jimmys engine??

Bang, yeah, a few times unfrotunately!! My engine is currently in a million bits. Not much salvaged I'm afraid but I've got a great parts manager who's tracked down all the bits I'm after and a master mechanic rebuilding it all for me with an American twist :D Hoping around the 300bhp mark but reliable!! I ran my engine lean as you like at Knockhill and it melted a piston. The engine was never right after that I'm afraid :( New head, new bottom end, new pistons, new cams, new everything really!! Can't wait :) You should find a local dyno and compare your 'road' bhp figure with it. We're all itching to see some proper graphs of Liams work, he's well respected but I've still not seen any graphs. Could save me a trip to Courtenays!!

Too lean that's all I know. One piston melted and there was det everywhere.

So are we convInced that this map sensor is the correct one?
What is the final part number so I can price one up?
