Jules what where your aims with the setup?

Alot of the problem is usually down to people reading things without knowing what the aim was behind it.

Jules what where your aims with the setup?   Alot of the problem is usually down to people reading things without knowing what the aim was behind it.

Initially no aims at all. The car had/has done 114k so I just thought the suspension components had worn out. The main niggles were: Way too heavy steering Rattles/clunks/chatter on bump and rebound Generally loose feeling Steering direction losing direction/focus - and by that I mean a disconnection front to rear as well as what happens directly from steering wheel input and where I'm pointing the front. Without the definitive results of the initial inspection I'm not able to 100% give a breakdown of where it was at. However, I do recall a visual inspection/measure noted Various bushes were looking a tad tired. Corner weights were not great - esp offside front Toe setting on rear offside was out Toe link play advisory on MOT. Geo on the front seemed OK Once taken apart: Springs too hard/short resulting in some with some pre tension, others with 20mm between springs and collars. Damping settings not the best given the above There was probably a 101 other things wrong but that was what stood out.

Sorry maybe should of put my question across better - that or I've misread something.

I presume from the springs you have gone for predominatly road setup?

Only ask as having had ntr's fitted they are no worse than my old billies for smooth/comfort but much better when the road surface is smooth. Think I need to try some damper settings though to see if this can be improved at all for road and changed back for track.

Yep, I specified road use only. No doubt harder springs have their place on a billiard table smooth track. Not really of much use to me around here though

Well,

That's another chapter over. The car has been away for 6 weeks (I think)

I've worked on it over most weekends as people on FB will realise, easy to post pics to there on the iBoBphone

Forgot the camera today; another big rush to get the train to the workshop. Once again uber respect to Dave for picking me up from the station....for those of you who don't know Dave; he is the person who has been taking apart/geoing/advising me on matters from 6 weeks ago onwards. He finished the car last week but still picked me up and let me use his car lift to sort the cill out. I think that sums up what a top drawer bloke he isn't doesn't it?

So a little text to pad out the lack of pics.

To start off. I've never ever done anything like this fibreglass repair before. No idea whatsoever apart from the internet and some advice from Dave.

My biggest regret on the job was letting the 'repair' creep down the cill.  If I did it again I'd restrict it to 6" max from where the hole(s) were. But being gung ho I just kept sanding/flatting and in hindsight that wasn't the best of ideas.

I started of today with the yellow filler primer which (as above) had crept about 12" away from the hole to the front. So sanded that back. Then primered it back to 'about' the point where the lacquer was taken back.

Lots more sanding/prep after that (TBH it's too late and its boring and I CBA to type right now and I'm shagged/tipsy)

I'm only really posting this for future reference for people who think they can't do a cill repair like that.  It's not 100%, but I bet you wouldn't notice it if you didn't know it was broke in the first place.

:)

A little ;) I'm a fussy doodah though; so I don't doubt I'll be giving it another go someday Funnily enough, I was just about to search your posts for window rattle cures, did you post about that? (I seem to recall you did) :)

I did it the "MartinS" way. Cut the trunking down (removed sides of the trunking), slide the trunking down the window guide and put window up and down as you go. I've done drivers side, still need to do passenger side.

I don't really have a clue mate :)

Got bored of the pinkness this afternoon....It's no longer pink in any place ;)

Posted Image

I can now see why they bubble where they do ;) all off mine were the lacquer popping off. No more pink and no more bubbles now :D

I'm moderately hopeful of a pretty good outcome on this! :D
