I've fashioned a 2' long allen key so i'm going to attack the bastard thing on an evening this week ;)

That's the spirit. :D

Fail mode here I'm afraid :(

After some trying this evening the allen keys just dont allow enough room to turn the lower bolts left or right....they hit the door/sill so not even a 1/4 turn available...hence no progress

JG & Coco are due here at 8:30 ish morrow morning (with Techie in tow). I spoke to james earlier and he's bringing the full compliment of his tooling :)

Unfortunately, as usual, my back is fcuked today....but I'll be taking a shed load of photos of everybody working on the car to update the clam off/radiator replacement guides.

Rude not too :)

have a fun day guys :)

Indeed we did :)

I really REALLY can't thank James (JG) and Lee (Cocopops) for doing this for me.....true gentlemen the pair of them :)

Nice to finally meet Matt and Jo too - hope you enjoyed Browns

I can't say everything went smoothly TBH. I'm sure James will be having nightmares for some time ahead about the screws over the hinges. To give you some idea we had to take both doors off and buy a 90deg chuck to get at them, and I reckon James took an hour to drill out the nearside bolt

Anyways, I'm now aching from the fringe down lol but I'm off to the shower a happy bunny :)

Posting from the m4... James is driving. Had a great (if tough) day, lunch was excellent, rain held off and we got the rad fitted, clam back on. Sorry we couldn't quite finish the inner arches etc, time just ran out at the end. Still, the bulk of the work is done. Looking forward to the pics of the clamless, doorless car! Good to meet Debs and the cats! :) Regards, Lee

A very enjoyable day. :) Great to see a bit of Bristol, great to see Jules and Debs again, lovely to meet the tigers :D Lunch at Brunel's Buttery was fantastic. Clams don't come much more tricky than this one. Both bolts under the windscreen, both bolts into the sills, both lower clam front into radiator surround had all rounded. But its all back together now with a new PA rad and lots of shinny new stainless steel thumbsup. reckon we'll be taking it off to fit a CC soon ;)

:D I tend to agree That must have been the absolute worst case front clam off scenario possible Every bastard bolt which could have caused issues did. I've downloaded the photos but unfortunately ATM my new windows/McAfee firewall is blocking photobucket access ffs James/Lee really do now have some ingenious solutions for the more complex issues we incountered today...bourne (no doubt) from working on SC'ing their cars and now mine. I've got some pics of the more pertinent areas and I'll host them on here when i can if thats ok with JG/Coco....their ideas/IP so I think it's only fair to ask first (sure it'll be OK) Certainly there was a eureka moment when working on the lower front bolts which worked a treat ;) After we got Lee active with the hacksaw (again) *snigger* Thanks yet again; today was very much appreciated. Where else would you find two blokes to give up a whole Saturday to help out a forum member/mate? Respect due Imnotworthy Enjoy the 90degree chuck mate....you bloody earned it :)

Lol.

Indeed. Well, it looks like the bulk uploader is fecking about with the firewall...but indiviual pics seem OK

It's sort of a shame me/dad started it all off as the 'clam removal/rad replacement' guides bear vertually nothing to what we encountered today. I may well make an abridged clam removal guide to update the original one to take on board issues with a clam that hasn't been off for 8 years!!!

Early doors....JG and Coco get me up earlier than I've been up in 4 years or so....Matt and Jo pay a visit.....discussions about drilling out 'those' bolts after Matt takes a peek

PrOn or screwfix on the laptop? Techie suggests a 90 degree attack angle; which sent me and Lee of to screwfix

A couple of things to do before you drive it Jules. The front clam to under-tray bolts haven't been replaced. I torqued the wheel bolts on the wheel i removed, be good to just check them. Though you need to remove it again to replace the arch liner (the new jack nuts for the liner are M6). The lights can be fitted with the wheel arches in place with the bonnet open. Don't use nylocs, use wingnuts, there are plenty left in your kit (you may have done that before)

Thanks James thumbsup Can we re-cap what happened with the shims? My recollection was we had two fitted to the pax door and we removed one of them to fit on the drivers? The fax door is rubbing on the clam ATM so im going to have to do some adjusting :)

where is it rubbing? The passenger had the shimms its currently got, and the drivers side had the additional one that is now left over. In other words: Boths doors had narrow shimms at the top Drivers door had two wide shimms at the bottom Passenger door had one wide shimm at the bottom.

The driver Shims were marked. Two at top, one large at bottom. The pad door was removed whilst Jules and I were at Screwfix.

Hmmmm Having looked at it again, the front edge of the door is actually rubbing against the cill. the clam is also slightly out of line so the door is also hitting the clam at the very bottom. Looks like I will be loosening a few fittings off and 'adjusting' :) It would appear (to my feeble mechanical mind) that the doors can be loosened off with the clam in situ; so I guess it's just a matter of fettling thumbsup
