Techie, what do I need to ask them? I told them my VX policy was with CCI and underwritten by Aviva, but even Aviva said they wouldn't do it. Is there some sort of magic handshake to get me in?
I'm currently looking at £600 to insure a 14 year old Freelander, i pay £250 for the VX

Didn't ask for anything, they just offered to do it when I took out the policy. Though in my case it was mirroring from a mainstream insurer (think it was probably More Than at the time) on the daily driver across to the VX policy with CCI.

I couldn't get mine mirrored when I tried last year.
It annoyed me a lot, they're all just a bunch of thieving cnuts.

I'm interested again too Ali and was just about to give this a bump as I've just bought a new second car. Take delivery a week on Saturday
Did you buy what I think you might have - with extended warranty?

Most specialist companies (Classic Line, Adrian Flux, Chris Knott etc) will discount you on the 2nd car the equivalent of your no claims on your main car. Not proper mirroring of the bonus but works out the same price in the end.

Cheers for that Paul. I'm with ClassicLine so will give them a call.

So here it is:
Phoned ClassicLine, quoted my VX insurance policy and explained I wanted an additional policy on another car. Got put straight through to their new business line. Spoke to a guy called George Cook (direct tel: 01455 639 035 in case anyone else is with ClassicLine and is looking at a second policy) and explained about wanting a mirrored NCB policy on a new car.
Gave him the details of the new vehicle and ran through to make sure my details etc hadn't changed. His first offer was to transfer my stored NCB of 9 years onto the new vehicle and he'd then offer me 2 years NCB on VX at renewal time on the VX as I had been with ClassicLine for 2 years. I said that wouldn't work as I'd then end up with a significantly hiked premium on the VX come renewal time. I asked if he would look again at mirroring the 9 years. I got put on hold for 5 minutes.............
Came back with an offer to mirror the % discount I was receiving on the VX with the new car and that I would then start to accumulate fresh no claims bonus discounts from scratch. He confirmed that in a years time if I stayed with CL they would continue to mirror the % discount.
The policy on the new car would be through Purely, which I think must be this company:
A bit of research shows that this is who Adrian Flux also use.
My policy (should I choose to accept it) is based upon the following:
Fully Comp
Legal Protection up to £100k
Full UK and European Breakdown cover
12,000 miles
£250 total excess
Social Domestic, Pleasure (and Commuting - see below)
Car on drive
Me and Mrs W driving
There is no NCB to protect at the moment but I can do that from next year.
Price quoted (bearing in mind that between us we have three non-fault, but fully recovered, claims on our records) was £277. At first this was without commuting but when I asked for a price including commuting he agreed to keep the price the same.
To be honest I think I am unlikely to be able to beat this but I might see if they'll bring the price down if I remove the breakdown cover given the car comes with this for a year from the dealer anyway. And of course I'll still do some phoning around to see if anyone can beat it.
In short, Paul (P11COV) above is correct. What CL has done is discount this second car the equivalent of my no claims bonus on my VX. Not proper mirroring of the bonus but works out the same price in the end.
The car.............all will be revealed in a week's time.
Hope this helps.

Do a group policy Ali and it will work out cheaper, I'm with Aviva atmand they mirror my no claims over 3 different vechiles, Admiral did the same for me last year too
Admiral multi-policy worked out well for me, and paid out with no hassle when my shed got totalled.
