Sorry it didn't work Nick. What was their reaction and trust you didn't pay for the privilege of getting no benefit.

I gave mine a good polish one weekend...

Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

The lights were wet-sanded removing all UV coating, then polished out to a shine. If I had more time I would have polished to a haze and sprayed on a new UV lacquer coat. My main aim was to remove the crazing coat which was visible on the black edging.

I'm in the process of having a new set of lens made up...the only problem is finding an intact lens for sale to make the mould. I would butcher my lens but it's my daily driver so can't afford any mishaps.

Good luck with the lens mould all effects have been to no avail over the past 7 years, I do have a spare lens if that helps.

D'you want a fibreglass 'lens' to make proper lenses from?

Thanks. Looking at previous threads cost of tooling and setting up limits starting up. I may take you up on your offer of the lens. Thanks!

Out of interest what was the original condition of your lens (flaking lacquer, brittle crazing plastic on the edging)? The lens material does pose some problems when trying to achieve a blemish free finish unfortunately.

One unit was sent as a test to see how well they would clean up, The other was my main one I put some tape on it to protect the inside when I went to spray the outer edge black, messed that up and put it on one side while I went to work. a week or so later when I removed the tape, bad marks were left and nothing would shift them. I have one are near a corner which still looks poor. also now they are misty where cleaned, will try to post tomorrow

It'll be a cold day in hell before we ever see any replacement lenses, especially if we wait for Vauxhall to come up with them. I think the best bet would be something simple with no clear bit like these but for the front:

I could possibly be tempted by that if it was body coloured perfectly. I really do find it hard to understand how hard it can be to make the lense I made loads of cool plastic things in art class! :beat:

Nick - I just saw this thread :( The Glasstechnics name rang a strange bell with me... I think I used them about 3-4 years ago now to try and fix my lights and they said they had done them, shipped them back to me and there was absolutely no difference. In the end I did not pay for it. I will try and dig through my emails to see whether it was them, they really shouyldn't have charged you as they will know full well they can't be polished!

Yep, I just checked the postcode and it was them, they're in Hook, hampshire. I remember as on a job I diverted over to them to try and pick them up but the address is a tiny cottage, with no sign of commercial activity right in the middle of nowhere, it was a nightmare to find even with sat nav.

I am liking your finish there. Please post up the process for getting to that stage.

Just spoken to him " They should have gone in the bin & no one in the world could get them any better" :angry2: yea £70 down the drain I will try to polish them myself, unless anyone has any better idea?
