Is it not as simple as breaking the connection between the positive terminal and the battery? (via a long loop of the red positive with isolator switch)

Manual key operated or electronic push button? It effectively goes in line with the battery cable, usually positive on the manual one and the earth on the electronic one. What it does is cut the flow from the battery and seperately, the ignition.

A proper internal and external motorsport one, Jimmy? Worth a look on SELOC as I've seen lots of threads about them (and their seeming unreliability), over the years.

Not if you need to kill the ignition on a car with an alternator.

Sorry guys I wasn't clear.... My battery has died as the car's not being run frequently enough (SORN'd) so I was just after one of the basic switches under the bonnet to isolate the battery so it doesn't drain over time. Just so I can get by until I buy a new pad with a proper garage! I guess it's a case of brreaking into the circuit but what size cables are people using? How do you terminate it if you're goiin in series with the battery connection then surely it's quite beefy?

I know it wasn't, you should know by now that I often fail to make my questions clear. I type as I think which at times of stress is not so clearly.

There's rarely a week goes by without somebody whingeing about the Cartek on SELOC. I think a lot of them are just down to bad installations but the solid state one does seem to be overly fussy/flakey. :(
