I guess what I'm saying is:

Essentially Status-Quo for many years (not all dandy, but more or less steady state). Scots decide they don't like it and want out maybe depending on if it suits them. So it kind of makes sense the rest aren't happy about it and would feel some animosity.

On the other hand. EU, major changes taking place. Would consider it as a valid basis for countries in it to be concerned and consider where they stand.

Should be stick it out through good times and bad. Not bail out when it's not looking too good.

I should point out that I'm not exactly a patriotic type. Plan to move somewhere sunny if finances and family arrangements allow in the future. Just kind of getting my head round why it would be annoying.

Give the Shetland and Orkney Islands a referendum to see if they want to be part of Scotland, I say. See how that alters the financials when "their" oil/gas fields get removed from the equation.

If they left I think they'd be leaving both of us. Norway is more a tie for them if not Scotland.

Quite possibly, I'm not suggesting for a moment that they would want to remain in the UK (though we'd clearly welcome them staying or even as a Crown Protectorate :D ). The point still stands though. There's no great clamour for independence on their part by the sound of it, yet it's being foist on them by a (what they see as a remote) government, led by a party they've never voted for in their history. Just the same as your pro-Yes lobby were yelling about last night in respect of the UK being led by a Westminster based Conservative government they've never voted for. Will you wave them and 2/3rds of "your" North Sea fields goodbye, if they decide they want to go their separate way or form a union with the Faroe's or Norway? If so, you're going to have to sell a fcuk load of whisky to make your books balance (even with the SNP's somewhat optimistic accounting).

So basically, currently the countries are quite closely financially aligned in terms of economic performance and trade, and UK Sterling is strengthening, and therefore it would be stupid to jepordise a countries position within it, and take a position where it has little control of said currency even under preferencial terms?

Or the ascertion that Scotland would be best to retain the Pound Sterling?

Of course we can. Both Alex and Nicola said its fine, and they spoke to DC and Europe peeps and confirmed its all 'OK'.. They also issued an open letter (the most detailed in history since the Bible or something) telling everybody how its going to be and to quit whining like a smaller-pullied M62's.

What more do we need?

Whats the feeling on the ground in Scotland at the moment? Yes or no to the vote?

From a bit further south it looks kind of like they know its going to be a no vote but are gearing up for "devo-max" or whatever they were calling it.

I think splitting into something smaller is crazy we should be sorting out moving forward together into the EU rather than looking back to break up the union.

Well when I say moving into the EU I mean kicking the can down the road until they sign the trade deal with the USA.

Not sure what this guys has been smoking. Talk about seeing things through Rose tinted glasses. Scotland will be voting on becoming Independent. Independent of the existing entity. This chap needs to wake up...

It'll be no more Aberdeen Angus for me and that most certainly will hurt the fledgling Scottish economy. http://www.vx220.org..._DIR#/laugh.png

Aberdeen Angus is mainly reared outside of Scotland. It is a breed of cattle!

I assume that if/when jockland leaved the union, the union flag/jack will need to be changed to delete the irrelevant bits..... Does that mean the UK can invoice scotland for having to change all those flags (be they actual flags or images etc)? :)
