I see your points Scott, but the majority of the anti-how-it-currently-is sentiments would/could be shared by anyone that lives outside of the home-counties, so Scotlandshire is not alone in feeling those things. The bedroom tax, again a large point in the Yes campaign has been just as destructive in my region and the north east as it has been in Scotland. The system was an ill-concieved project to redress a problem that existed in a snall number of places. However my biggest frustration with the whole Yes campaign is the "we will do it better than yooo!". I just can't see how yoo can. How anyone could think an SNP Scotland could be a democratic ideal is beyond me. When the fat controller (Salmond) actually sits and listens to the people and their fears without patronising them by just bleating "nasty england this, bullying bastards that..." then he may get some traction. Ultimately it is that alone that stops me turning round to say, 'okay I can see why you want this and sympathise'. As for HS2 - do you actually think the Leeds section will actually ever be built? I don't, the only parts that will exist is a Manchester-Birmingham-London line. Us Englanders won't benefit from HS2, Londonites may see it as access to cheaper housing.

And in the home counties too. In fact, many of us get a much worse deal than Scotland.

Up in the North West, we're largely ignored by London the same as the folks in Scotland are. The difference is, we don't have our own government with powers over westminster to improve things. We're stuck with local MPs who bow to London.

Scotland currently have the best of both worlds. Power to govern (to an extent). with the backing and stability of the UK infrastructure. We should be so lucky

To me yesterday was a great example of bad behaviour on both sides of the fence, but most worrying was the reaction from Salmond.

In essence Standard Life said "we're making provision in case there is a yes vote and the climate doesn't advantage us" and made specific mention of the currency union.  No-one can deny that, when you read what they ACTUALLY said then it makes total sense.  However the way it was interpreted was dangerous.

The together campaign took that to mean "we'll leave if there is independence" which isn't necessarily true.

The yes campaign went one better though and said "everyone agrees we need a monetary union and its the best for everyone".....which isn't true either.

Regardless of what the yes campaign think is sensible or the right thing to do, if the dominant side of the relationship (westminster) says we can't have a currency union then it won't happen.  Right now they are saying it won't happen and as such IF we got independence AND we didn't get a currency union then Standard Life MIGHT vote with their feet.

One thing is for sure though, Westminster won't lose any sleep about Standard Life moving from Edinburgh to London post "yes" vote........and why would they?  For the good of the union that no longer exists?

For me this is where the Yes campaign are being naive and they need to start giving concrete plans for what will happen - the institutions (such as my employer) won't stand for instability.

Is it possible for the Pro Independence guys to ditch Salmond ? I think he just irritates and winds up the rest of the UK and so isn't doing Scotland any favors post vote whichever way it goes.

You don't half ramble some shite. No idea what you're trying to say here. The budget is due to drop. The SNP have had since their inception the idea of independence. A majority in a Scottish Parliament has allowed them to get a referendum through. You think they don't want it? No idea what the formation of letters bit is about.

where does the extra £7.4bn come from? Is Scotland not entitled to the same share from that?

The way I read that I think you both need to re-read it. Basically it is suggesting that Scotland get and extra £7bn per year more than they contribute.

That's how I read it. Scots are getting a very good deal already, but are still complaining. There seems to be an expectation amongst some that the UK needs to offer Scotland more as an incentive to vote no. Why should we stay, what you offering to make it worth staying kind of thing. I disagree with that. If they want to stay, more than welcome. Don't like that it feels like they would be doing us a favor by staying...

Cameron has played the joker by stating they won't be taking the sterling. also EU membership won't necessarily be automatically awarded. This is a big decision for the Scots and even if there is a yes majority for independence this is going to take years and a lot of fiscal risk also.

It's great how you can quote figures to strengthen your case but when interpreted correctly it's the opposite

Or are the figures wrong ? Always wondered how Scotland can afford free university fees which has cost me a frigging fortune three times, the bastards

But on a positive, if they do get independence, they'll have to let the English into their universities for free too. (Unless the EU don't let Scotland back in or rUK leave). Scottish universities may get very, very popular all of a sudden.

Tory party conference in Edinburgh today across the road from here (Scottish Widows) at the EICC. Riot vans, sturdy set up barriers, millions of police, tv crews, liason teams. I'm going to buy eggs...
